Installing a Backup Camera
Installing a Backup Camera
Got a problem installing my backup cam, turns out I had tapped into the brown/pink wire (a speaker wire haha) and not the black/pink wire.
Problem is, the black/pink wire (power for the reverse lamps) absolutely positively does not reside in my door sill kick panels at any door on either side. I have looked for 3 days. I have repeatedly taken my taillights off to make sure I am looking for the correct wire, and I have looked at FX4life's photos of his install and that wire is not present in my cab in the sill plates.
The only black/pink wire (the pink is really bright, not like the the ones going to the bulb in the taillight, and it appears to be a smaller gauge than the ones going to the reverse lamps) that I found I cut while in reverse to see if the reverse lights would go off, and they did not, so it is not the correct wire.
Are there any alternatives for connecting my reverse sensing wire from my headunit? I can turn on the camera on my headunit manually and its great, but I really would like it to come on automatically when I shift into reverse.
Please help!

Anybody have an alternate??
Looks like I may be just running the wire all the way to the rear taillight so that I KNOW I will have a good source...while I'm at it I can wire the camera to constant power source also, so I can look at tailgaters while I go down the road haha

I found a black/pink in the drivers side rear kick panel, but when I spliced into it the camera didn't come on automatically, and in my frustration, decided to see if it was it or not by cutting it.
So I set the parking brake, turned the key forward and put the truck in reverse, got out and cut the wire (black/pink), and the reverse lights stayed on, on both sides. I am clueless, and I'm telling you, every day for 3 days I scoured the drivers side door sill for that wire, and had no luck. Had a couple friends look too. I have no idea whats going on!
It's very frustrating. I did get a good laugh when I discovered that I had tapped into the wrong wire previously because....I saw my tap for my line-out converter not 3 inches down the same wire. Doh! haha

Did you check the smaller bundle of wires that feeds into the huge bundle in the door sill? The bundle I'm talking about comes from under the cab and I think it was in the driver's side floorboards. That's where I found the wire.

I'll definitely look, but in the rear door sill and the front one I have isolated spots where there is nothing but metal under all the wires I'm looking in - I removed a lot of the wrap/tape/sheathing/loom from the wires in the front and back so I could separate and look for the wire easier. I'll check that though.
