Wow I'm stupid (with Wal-Mart's help)

I went to wal mart today to pick up some motorcraft oil and filter to do a change on my truck. Wal mart are the only ones I know of in my area to carry motorcraft anything. I used their little electronic filter selector, and it told me motorcraft FL-1A. Took it off the shelf without thought and off to home I go.

I get home and get the filter out, looking at the box thinking "God this seems big...."

The FL-1A filter is the size of a coffee can, looks like it belongs on a 7.3 diesel and not a 5.4 3v. Anyway, shame on me for not paying attention before I left, and shame on the wal-mart thing for telling me the wrong filter...

Before I go back, FL-820S is the correct size, right?

yes, 820S is what you need.

and if going to Walmart....the filter will most likely be between the isle that has car parts...fishing supplies, toilet plungers and bread

Hate that damn store...I think when they open those places they just open the boxes, put the stuff on the closest shelf and throw up a label sign. People watching at walmart is always fun though :)

Agree with everything you said there, I don't like it either, but my options are limited unless I want to take a drive. You're spot on about where the filters are too, plungers and fishing rods are right in that area.:D

Really? That filter is pretty big, it's almost the size of a smaller coffee can.

We get 'em at Wal Mart here too, but we just leave 'em on the shelf till the trash man comes, then he can put 'em where they belong!

What's wrong with that? All guy stuff right? Make it easy for 'em to find- us guys are on a mission when we shop, not on a sabbatical like the gals are. You have to remember where Wal Mart originated and still is headquartered- in the South. We were visiting our son and his family in Alabama (in the military) a few years back and the favorite thing to do on Fri. evening after going to the all-you-can-eat catfish place is to stop at Wal-Mart to put the icing on the cake. 2 of Alabama's finest were just standing in the fishing isle staring at the goods. Finally one turned to the other and uttered the only words spoken..."it don't get no better'n this!"

The first time I changed my truck's oil I went to Walmart and their computer thing told me which filter to get and I got home and drained the oil and then realized it was too small.
I had my brother go to Advance and get me a filter. Same problem.
So I had to borrow my mom's car and go get the right one. Apparently theres two listed for these trucks but only one fits.

One filter has a standard thread the other is metric, 22 mm I believe. The 3v 5.4 uses the metric thread.
