Does anyone else's truck do this??
I have a 2007 f150 sc fx4!! Only when the truck is in overdrive!! If I hit a pothole or bump in the road it downshifts and the rpms go up by 100 jst for a few seconds then it goes back!! I think if it was not for the change in sound of the exhaust I would never notice it!! You cant feel it!! Is this normal??
Thanks Jesse!! |
That is the TC unlocking, not downshifting of the transmission. More than likely, when you hit that pothole, your foot is going down on the gas pedal causing it to unlock.
|
What's tc?? traction control?? And i have done this several times making sure my foot does not press on the gas!!
|
Torque converter. The torque converter unlocks when you give it a small amount of gas, then if it needs to it downshifts to 3rd or lower as needed. Then once back in 4, and no longer accelerating, it locks back up.

I had a 2wd same engine, same year model, i don't recall it doing this!!
|
Can't say I've noticed mine doing anything like that.
|
most of the time it is subtle. So subtle that most people don't notice it. It is normal though.
|
So this is an issue that I should not have concern with?? Thanks for the reply's!!

Wellsir - to prove this to you, just go pothole-hunting with the cruise control ON !! You'll likely notice that the behaviour you describe does not occur !! And yes - it's not any cause fer concern !! Not to worry !! Just be REAL careful-like !! !! :beers: !! MGD v4.1 !! |

Different gearing will produce different results also. Same HEX calibrations? Another thing that varies in these trucks is the calibration programs in the pcm's. One calibration for one truck might have a more sensative setting for the pedal position sensor over the other one. |
Yeah, its about the same as when some high school kids around town here drive around and rev it up while its still in drive. If your just cruising and tap the gas the rpms will raise but your TQ unlocks not causing you to surge forward. If the gas pedal remains held down then it will down shift and take off. I guess it can also be classified as the gas pedal lag.

Hey 88 I have no idea ab the calibrations!! I just wanted to know if this was a problem to be concerned with!! It seems from the replys that its normal!! Thanks again guys for the answers!!

When the CC is on the pedal response is put into a standby mode so you can still use it to speed up. :beers: |
