P0506: Idle Air Control (IAC)

my truck has thrown this three times in the last two weeks. i have an 05 4.6 with 120k miles.

code:
P0506: Idle Air Control (IAC)
System RPM Lower Than Expected

my truck has had a "bounce" in the rpms for atleast the last 30k miles. usually on start up on hot days. or at red lights/stop signs.

what do i do?

only aftermarket performance parts are my gotts mod, K&N, and programmer.

please and thank you.

yeah id say clean it then, mine started doin it after the programmer, corrected itself, then i had the starter replaced and it wiped out the adaptive learning and it barely idled, so i bumped it up and it was fine. Im waiting till spring to clean the tb and the maf, i know it needs done

WOW. i spent the last hour and a half pulling/cleaning the throttle body. i have to say the hardest part was one of the hoses in the back, clamp didnt want to come off. the other one pissed hot coolant on me, my dumb mistake. other than that, easy.

but again, wow. my truck has throttle response! since when? idk, i have never had it in the last 42k miles lol. amazing. thanks for all your help.

Didn't want to start a whole new thread for this, so I'm bumping this older thread.

Apparently my dad's 05 4.6 is throwing this code. He took it someplace to have it "fixed" (they just cleaned it out) about a year ago (for the same symptoms, not sure if for the same code.) So it seems it needs to be cleaned again. How often does the throttle need to be cleaned?

I think the place he took it to is just going to just order something (I forget what my dad said over the phone) and see if it fixes it "more permanently."

The only engine mod the truck has is an S&B drop in filter (don't remember how long he's had it in there.)
