I believe they are roughly the same as in the Cup cars, which would make them 358 CI, push rod motors and they also run carbs. They are a highly modified "brother" to the 302 and 351. Cup cars are usually pushing 750-800hp, I think the truck series in slightly detuned to 650hp (or atleast they use to be). Nothing like the 4.6 and 5.4's.

Lots and lots of motor work, years of R&D, also $$$$$$$. The average motor costs anywhere from about $45,000 up to $60,000, then after that one race the motors are torn down and rebuilt at a cost of around $30,000. The motors run special crank and cam, high compression specially cut pistons for 12:1 compression, full roller valve trains, 98 octane Sunoco race fuel, and lots of other stuff.

You are correct. The Trucks run a 390 CFM carb versus 830 for Srint cup. These motors are nothing close to production. They turn 8 to 9000 rpm, and run race gas. I have a set of late 80s Nascar heads, built by Bud Moore, an they are a work of art, to see all the hand porting done. Of course now this is all done by CNC machines, so they are all nearly identical.

WOW! I have seen pictures of head off Cup cars, I know a couple guys that work for Roush-Fenway (one of which actually works in engine development for Roush/Yates), but I have never seen any in person. They look to be a work of art! Heck even the motors out of the dirt track modifieds from around here that are in the 550 hp range are something, much less a really highend set of heads.

I had the heads on the 351 Windsor, with B&A track maniflod, inmy 72 Mustang. Had 10 to 1 Ross pistons ( for larger Chambers), and custom ground Comp Cam, free thanks to a professor working with GM on their restrictor plate motors. Wih completely stock suspension, 10 inch cheater slicks, and 5.17 gears, the car ran in the low 11s at 123 mph in the quarter. I would like to build a 426 stroker smll block motor to put thes on if I ever get another Mustang.
