Break In Repair Questions

Someone bump tapped my driver's side door yesterday, so now I'm looking to either repair the door, or upgrade to power locks & if I do that I might as well add power windows.

how it currently looks

the local stealership wants damn near $400 for the parts, and labor, they're telling me they have to assemble the lock since it comes in 100 pieces?

since I'm looking at close to a $400 dollar repair, I might as well go another route & get myself power windows & locks. I was told that regular cab doors are the same size as screw doors, is this true? If so what would I need to do to get power to the screw doors?

What other options are out there for powered doors?

power locks wont have anthing to do with the door lock cylinder. youll have to replace that anyway and then you could add the power locks. ive done both of those to mine and let me tell you what its a great upgrade

Not sure about upgrading to power window/door locks but I just repaired the door handle because someone did the same thing to mine last year and here's what I did.

I ordered a replacement outer door handle assembly for about $20 shipped (online, just google shopping search and you'll find them - mine is the kind with the keypad and there are style options).

I called a few locksmiths and received quotes from 90 to 150 to create the core and install it on my door, as long as I had the handle. After that, I called a Ford dealerships and received various quotes for just the lock core assembly, $50-95 range and found one close to the house for 55. I asked the parts guy on the phone if he knew any good locksmiths that could build the lock core (just to be competitive) around my current key and he told me to bring him a $20 & he'd have a tech in the back do it while I wait. When I went it to pay for the lock core and drop the parts guy a $20, he dissapered out back for about 10 minutes and returned with the lock core and my key inside it working - that told me it can't be too hard to make the core around the key and locksmiths are just charging labor to take your door apart and install the handle. I repaired my door handle exterior cover & lock core for around $100 - sure beats my 500 insurance deducitble.

If you're willing to research how to remove your door handle and switch out your handles yourself you'll save a few hundred dollars. (search on these boards, there are a couple of step by step threads related to door panel removal and changing out door handle assemblies that makes it very easy to walk thru)

Good luck on this and finding power window/lock upgrades.

I read up on how to change out the handle, but I've got hands the sized of canned hams, and don't think I'd be able to get my hands in there & work
