Redoing My System
Redoing My System
I figured i'd get more responses from here.
I am redoing my system here in the next few weeks and I have been researching products tonight. My plan is to have Alpine type R components with 110 RMS power in the front with an alpine mrp- f300 powering them at 150 watts rms x 2. I know its over the rms of the speakers so i'm just trying to make sure this will all work. Then i'm moving my Rockford fosgate speakers to the back. They take 75 rms a peice and I plan on running them off the HU, but if I think that it would be better I might just order a kicker zx200.2 amp that puts off 70 watts per channel. How does this sound to everyone? Thanks, Brent.

Adding another amp for your rear speakers is a waste of time and money. Run them off the HU, that will be plenty for rear fill. There is no point in having a nice component set if you're going to rape them with coax from the rear. Also, just because your amp is giving out 150rms to each doesn't mean it will hurt the components rated at 110. Keep the gain set low, test it with a multi to ensure no clipping.
What do you mean there is no point in having a comp set if I have coax in the rear? I heard it would be a waste of money to put comps in the back to. The rockfords I have are nice speakers, I just want something louder without distortion.
At no point in my post did I say there is no point in having comps if you have coax speakers in the rear. I did say there is no point in spending money on an amp to make your coax's louder than your comp set. If money is no issue I guess go for it, spending $100 on an amp to run your rear speakers when you have a nice amp and comp set seems a bit ridiculous to me, but it would make your coax speakers cleaner and if you want, louder too. Your HU is probably running ~22rms to each, more than enough for rear fill.
Just think of it as too much or too little juice for the speaker. It ends up producing a distorted sound and can mess up your speakers.

Ok thanks man. So right now I am running my Rockfords off the HU and they distort at the upper levels of the volume. They sound great though at the lower levels. If I just run them off my headunit and not another set would they still distort? Becase I would have the comps in the front off the amp and just the rockfords in the rear off the hu. I just want to get rid of as much distortion as possible.

Hey does anyone know what the absolute best power is for the type r's? I bought some and now i'm looking for an amp and i'm thinking about the alpine mrp-f300. It puts out 150 x 2 @ 4 ohms. I know of a guy thats runnin 170 x 2. But I just want to know if this sounds good for these speakers. I want them to be setup just right. Brent
