Installed new Monroe rear shocks. Pics inside.

I had this in my old thread but thought I would start a new thread.

Alright guys, swapped out the rear shocks for the Monroes. It was an easy swap, just 2 bolts on each shock, unbolted them and then jacked the truck up to align the new shocks. The rear shocks were crap, I compressed them easily and they took a very long time to spring back, llke a really long time.

I have only taken it down the road about 5 miles total, but I have noticed a few things already.
-the ride is smoother and more stable in the rear, now I have to get the front changed.
-The bed shake that I had was pretty bad and now has dissipated to almost nothing. Big plus for me.
-And like that it got me alittle more height.

The end result: http://i136.photobucket.com/albums/q...000_120100.jpg

Sorry but the truck is very dirty, we got about a couple inches of snow yesterday here in northern Mi.

I gained an inch of height in the rear also.

Wonder what the life span is gonna be like for them.

When you said Monroe I thought they would be crap auto store ones, but whoa, those even have a spring, very nice.

bfabian 01-30-2010 07:01 PM

how much did they cost?

ride_002000 01-30-2010 07:25 PM

Thanks guys. I love the shocks they are a great upgrade. I bought these off Amazon for an amazing $75 shipped, there was only one left when I bought them at that price and once I did they went up to $95, not sure if shipping was included or not. On ebay they were around $130 shipped.

I had 62k on my stockers and they were trashed.

Duckduke: did yours lift it any?

Nice man

Still planning on putting a BL on ?

duckduke 01-30-2010 07:34 PM

I just measured............as close as I can tell about 1" at the rear wheel (measured from center of hub).

BTW........when I checked amazon I found them at $92 ....then $95. I didn't want to wait............bought mine over the counter at O'Reily's for $135.

I ordered mine last sunday and they got here on thursday, so pretty quick. And I didnt need them right away, I work during the week until dark so the weekend is the only time to put them on. And I doubt they have them over the counter here in northern michigan, pretty lame up here.

i am interested in these since i have 70k on the stock shocks but i have a question.

with them having the coil springs does it give them a stiffer rider in the rear when not under a load or is it still a pretty smooth ride?

ride_002000 01-31-2010 01:01 PM

Nope its smooth. Its kinda complicated to explain, in the shock is an area where it is smooth when that shock is compressed when hitting bumps or with a load, they move into a more stiffer area in the shock that is for better control and stability. They have a diagram on the box that they come in that better explains how the systme works. Hope that helps.
