obscene cold causing issues?

Ok it was very cold here in MN today. Was -2 and truck was barely getting warmed up when I hit a patch of ice and tires spun (in development it happens all the time as our snow removal sucks). Then it threw a light on the dash and the Edge read p2106. Turns out this is a generic code....

But in doing some searched it could be throttle body issues, tps of this:

Make : FORD Model : F-150 Year : 2005
Manufacturer : FORD MOTOR COMPANY
Service Bulletin Num : 0546 Date of Bulletin: OCT 07, 2005
NHTSA Item Number: 10018053
Component: POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION:CONTROL MODULE (TCM, PCM)
Summary:
MALFUNCTION INDICATOR LAMP ON WITH DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE P061B AND/OR P2106 AFTER COLD START AND RAPID TRANSMISSION GEAR ENGAGEMENT - VEHICLES BUILT 8/23/2004 THROUGH 1/15/2005 - 5.4L 3-VALVE ENGINE. *TT

Anyone have experience with this issue> If its the tsb will it just self correct since it may have been trying to protect itself?

I can't help you with the code, but I can sympathize with the cooooooooooold. I often ask myself why I live here. The worst thing I ever did was move away to Colorado for two years and then move back here...what was I thinking...lol. Wish I could of be more assistance.

Extreme cold can do weird stuff to a vehicle. If it's running fine, just keep an eye on things. You could try pulling the negative battery cable for about 15 minutes or so to clear the code (unless the Edge will clear it). If it doesn't come back then it should be OK.

I have a feeling it is due to the Tranny Fluid Temp not being up to the appropriate temp. I talked to Stealth about this and started monitoring TFT on my Gryphon and our trucks don't seem to want to do into OD and up shift smoothly until the temp is about 85-90*. You were probably below that and it might have sent/triggered an "alert" because it was probably fairly hard on the tranny with it being cold and all.

No mechanic here, just thinking and trying to pout things together.

Boy, a lot of P2106 -- TPS errors lately.

I'd check your throttlebody for ice.

Well garage may not melt the ice in the tb if it's in there. Plus plowing thru big azz drifts probably didn't help.

I do that all the time on ice in my driveway, but never threw a code yet. How fast were you going? Do you think it was in the middle of a gear shift when the tire hit pavement?

I watched mine today after reading your post. I have COM GEAR, ECT, and TFT displayed on my Edge. The truck sat for two days in my garage, and the engine and trans were 20*, and it was 8* outside. The first thing I noticed was that it shifted into 4th gear right away, and the trans was up to 35*, but the torque converter would not lock. The converter first locked when the TFT was 87*, as long as I was going over 40 mph. Just my observation. I think a lot of the time when our torque converter unlocks people think the tranny is shifting out of OD.

Obscene cold? It was -40 here for 2 weeks in December. You want to see stuff not working, that's when it gets bad.

I've never had any issues with the my truck in the cold, just the usually extra crank and noises, now working on a roof all day...sucks.

I've noticed that too. OD won't engage so that it will heat the transmission up quicker.

... and the engine, and to keep from lugging the poor things before it's warm enough

Ford slushboxes (the 4Rxxx) have been doing that for a while, I think...

It was very cold that day but the cold along with a cold (not yet warmed up) tranny and tire slippage was the issue. Never the less, I never experienced a loss of power, surging, ect like others with this code who had TB issues. Also, the truck went right back to normal the next day (still pretty cold but not Canada cold) and have gone 500+ miles with no issues. So my guess* is it was tire slippage and the 'puter reuding power to protect the cold tranny...??? Thanks for the help/opinions. Hopefully this can help someone else out if they experience these symptoms
