Turning off cabin chime ???

I know it's been talked about a bunch before (when I wasn't too concerned about it) but I did several searches (didn't really know what to search specifically for) and found nothing ?

Anyway, I've been doing a lot of really slow driving, with the seatbelt off (for photography) and that damn chime is starting to get REALLY annoying !

Isn't their some sort of sequence you can do, like turning the ignition on and off, a certain number of times or something goofy, that will turn off this lame chiming sound ???

Oh, and will that turn off the chime for "everything" ? ....or just for certain things ?
Everything would be fine with me. I can't think of anything I need that chime for. Headlights are a different sound anyway... a beep, if I remember correctly....

Anybody ?

Much thanks,
Fish

The whole process is in your owners manual if you have one. You have to plug in and unplug the seat belt a certain number of times etc etc...follow the whole skip, jump, an a hop. Basically you can shut off the chime for each seat independently. Not too sure about the headlights etc. Pretty sure you can't turn those off.

Very easy.

WARNING: PLEASE, WEAR YOUR SEATBELT WHILE DRIVING! I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE IF YOU OR SOMEONE GETS INJURED/KILLED BECAUSE YOU/THEY READ MY INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO DISABLE THE BELTMINDER SAFETY FEATURE. BY CONTINUING, YOU RELIEVE ME OF ANY ISSUES THAT MIGHT ARISE REGARDING THIS.

One time disable
If at any time the driver/front passenger quickly buckles then unbuckles
the BeltMinder feature for that seating position, the BeltMinder is
disabled for the current ignition cycle. The BeltMinder feature will
re-enable during the same ignition cycle if the occupant buckles and
remains buckled for approximately 30 seconds. Confirmation is not given
for the one time disable.

Deactivating/activating the BeltMinder feature
The driver and front passenger BeltMinder are
deactivated/activated independently. When deactivating/activating
one seating position, do not buckle the other position as this will
terminate the process.

Read Steps 1 - 4 thoroughly before proceeding with the
deactivation/activation programming procedure.
The driver and front passenger BeltMinder features can be
deactivated/activated by performing the following procedure:
Before following the procedure, make sure that:
• The parking brake is set
• The gearshift is in P (Park) (automatic transmission)
• The ignition switch is in the OFF position
• The driver and front passenger safety belts are unbuckled
While the design allows you to deactivate your BeltMinder, this
system is designed to improve your chances of being safely
belted and surviving an accident. We recommend you leave the
BeltMinder system activated for yourself and others who may use the
vehicle. To reduce the risk of injury, do not deactivate/activate the
BeltMinder feature while driving the vehicle.
1. Turn the ignition switch to the RUN (or ON) position. (DO NOT
START THE ENGINE)
2. Wait until the safety belt warning light turns off. (Approximately 1
minute)
• Step 3 must be completed within 50 seconds after the safety belt
warning light turns off.
3. For the seating position being disabled, buckle then unbuckle the safety
belt 9 times, ending in the unbuckled state. (Step 3 must be completed
within 50 seconds after the safety belt warning light turns off.)
• After Step 3, the restraint system warning light (airbag light) will be
turned on for three seconds.
4. Within 10 seconds of the light turning on, buckle then unbuckle the
safety belt.
• This will disable the BeltMinder feature for that seating position if it
is currently enabled. As confirmation, the restraint system warning
light will flash 4 times per second for 3 seconds.
• This will enable the BeltMinder feature for that seating position if it
is currently disabled. As confirmation, the restraint system warning
light will flash 4 times per second for 3 seconds, followed by 3
seconds with the light off, then followed by the restraint system
warning light flashing 4 times per second for 3 seconds again.

This is absolutely rediculous, but I'm going to do it right now
Thanks!

I've followed the directions in the owners manual several times, and it NEVER works. I still have the most annoying chime ever made.

I'd like to find the toolbox at Ford that thought this would be an excellent idea, and beat the living **** out of him while his mother watches.

Thank you Manual....

I printed out those instructions, and will give it a shot before my next trip.

...and don't worry... I know you had to put the disclaimer just to CYA, but it's such a habit for me to use my seatbelt, that I'm more likely to forget.... and "put it on" when I'm doing my photography thing, and didn't mean to put it on.... than I am to forget to put it on, for normal driving.

I drive for a living, and always wore my seatbelt, even before it became CA Law.

Speaking of that though, when at Bodega Bay doing photography (several days in the last couple months) I have yet to have a Sheriff or law enforcement of any kind, say anything about my driving 5mph.... parking halfway off the shoulder... heck, even parking off the shoulder facing against traffic ! ....let alone, no seatbelt.
In fact, by now, I think they all know me. They are probably like, "Oh yea.... It's just that guy in the whacked out Army looking truck, doing photography again" LOL

Peace,
Fish

On my 02 I would just hit the button on the buckle and it would stop but doesnt work on my new one. I have become deaf to it, but it drives my wife nuts when she drives with me.

the sequence does work, if he copied out of the manual correctly. I did this on both seats a year or two ago.

It helps if you "practice" each step before hand, so you know what to do. The first time I did it, it didn't work. You have to make sure you do all the steps as quickly as you can before it "times out" or else it won't work.

This DOES work. I have done it like 3 different times on 3 different vehicles. Thing is though, that the sequence of steps has seemed to change over the years. Yes it did start where all you would have to do is push the eject button on your belt receiver each time your crank up...Ford changed that in like a year I think. Anyways in like 01 I think I wrote down the steps off of the web for an expedition. I kept what I had wrote down and tried it on my 05 when I got it, and it didn't work. I searched on the web again, and someone posted a slightly different sequence, so I tried it. Still didn't work. Then finally I got a tip that it is in your Owners Manual on how to disable the Belt Minder. Followed those steps and WaaLa...Makes driving so much more pleasant.

p.s. You do have to do it for the driver and passenger seat. They have sensors in them...If no one is riding with you...it won't sound off on the passenger seat, but if someone does ride with you, and you have only disabled the driver seat...it will go off like crazy until your passenger buckles up..

I gotta disable it in my wifes Edge and not tell her. She hates that I don't wear my seatbelt but she hates the chime more.
