Installed 6000K HID's last night!!!!
Man idk why I didn't do this sooner... These things are awesome.
Went with a 6000K kit it's so easy to do too! So far just did the headlights. Not really even a need to do the fogs can't even tell they are on with the HID's now. But probably end up doing them anyway so they all match as far as color goes. Or maybe swap out the factory fogs for some Piaas. Sorry no pics yet. Got 14 inches of snow last night... I call them the cop catchers because anything refelctive POPS out like crazy! Haven't done much to the truck since the putco leds in the domes and my new tires. So it was time to do something else! I've been good this year... |
you should DEF do the fogs, too. it looks sick

HIDH13-6000 HID Lighting system H13 Series 6000 kelvin $249.95 Got them through Absolute Sound in McHenry IL. Where I used to work. If I end up doing the Fogs it's this kit. HIDH10-6000 HID Lighting system H10 Series 6000 kelvin $249.95 They also make both of these kits as 8000K. Here's more info on em. MaxcarR HID bulbs are laser aligned to provide optimal light beams that provide and OEM appearance. MaxcarR bulbs use 100% Philips burners that last allows our bulbs to last well beyond our competition and premium AMP water tight connectors providing the best possible connection. MaxcarR ballasts may look like other ballasts on the market but they’re not. Our ballasts are epoxy sealed on the inside to ensure a water tight seal. Many other ballasts will not last a year since they over heat and fail unlike our ballasts which produce less heat. |
Hey that's one of the best mods I have done but I went with the 10000K & I love it.

HID ??'s
ok I bought a set of 6000 HID's I want to put them in a set of PTM headlights, do I have to worry bout the paint on the inside now that the bulb will be hotter?
also I installed aftermarket blue bulbs in my fogs, and melted two hotspots in the lens.... wont the HID's do the same thing? If not what kit do I need to match my 6K HID's...I got my Headlight HID kit for 70.00! with bulbs, ballast, ect ect ect. truck is a 08 Screw with 7K miles on it since bought new in Aug. Thanks. |
Hopefully you did a hi/lo kit to retain high beam. The generic kits without the hi/lo option put the bulb in the high beam position so its pretty damn blinding. If you dont have a hi/lo kit I would definitely aim them down a bit.

With high watt bulbs... Now I have lower watt ones in and new lenses. But the rest has already been anwsered! Thanks for the props! LOL Ya'll know how they look anyway seeing that you have them!! |
So guys since my install I have noticed ALLOT of people flashing their high beams at me thinking I'm running mine. I'm not and I flash back sometimes...
Do you have this problem? Think PTM heads whould help direct the light a little better?? |
Did you adjust them down?

I didn't know I could... :o I've looked but saw no way to adjust them. Where is it hiding? |
First of all, running HID's with the stock housings is why you are blinding people. HID's from OE manufactuers are in profector housings that can define the cutoff. Putting the HID's in reflector housings doesn't focus the light very well. You can turn the screw or bolt to lower the beam, but you'll still get flashed from oncoming drivers. The BEST thing to do is to retrofit projectors into the stock housings, but most people just replace the stock housings with aftermarket headlights which have a projector setup.
While the aftermarket ones are better than stock, they still aren't designed for HID and don't have the sharp cutoff designed into them. But they still do much better than the reflector-style. |
