need advice with programmers

I have a 2006 F150 with the 5.4 and since I put my 35s on it, the performance that it had kinda dissappeared. I knew it would, but I didn't expect that it would make my truck nearly as slow as my father's 2000 Excusion V10...

I already have a true dual exhaust w/ factory cats and an Airaid Jr. Intake, which isnt a full cai, It uses the factory airbox and maf, and only replaces the filter itself and the plastic intake tube.

I also need to reprogram my speedo somehow, so im leaning towards buying a programmer.

Now heres where I need the help.. I've seen a few used Edge Evos on craigslist around me going for around $250. Im short on cash at the moment, so if I buy one of those used edges, and if I get the seller to sign a contract guaranteeing that the edge works normally, would it fix my lack of power problem without messing up my truck? I've heard that they mess up trucks that already have a cai. Or, would it be better to just live with it until I can get enough for a gryphon? If I do that, it will be a while until I can afford it.

Buy the Edge for cheap off CL and send it to PHP to make it a Gryphon. A Gryphon is a custom tuned Edge. The setup you have now requires a custom tune. The Edge has tunes that are made for a stock truck.

You are not getting full benefit from the intake with your stock tune and neither will you get it with the Edge, as its program is written for a stock intake. You have to have a custom tune to take advantage of extra air. The Edge will work fine with that intake, and will give you a nice added power, better shifting etc. The custom tunes just give you more of everything. The Edge will solve your tire height problem. If cash is that tight, go with the Edge for $200 or so and then later on, upgrade to the Gryphon with custom tunes. Just make sure the truck it was on was returned to stock or it will not function on your truck. That is unless, by pure luck, your truck has the same HEX code as the one it was on.

I loved mine too, until I decided to give custom tuning a try, just to see what everyone was clamoring about. I have Gryphon tunes, and they have paid for themselves several times over, for me.

I wish I knew about the Gryphon before I bought the Edge and now I need to send it off to get it Gryphoned! Started getting a lean condition these last few weeks since it started getting really cold around here. Wouldn't have this problem if I had the Gryphon tunes.

I have a SCT X3 with a custom tune by VMP, and it fills like I have a new truck. You can't go wrong with VMP, Troyer or PHP tune.

i think if you got a gryphon, its 30 a tune. but if you get your edge gryphonized, i think its also 30. i could be wrong.

Call PHP and see if they still offer custom tunes for the Edge. Last I remember they can write them still for "certain circumstances" such as yours. I know I love my PHP tuned Edge! 87 perf and 93 perf.

Well I went ahead and took the most expensive option. I bought a new Gryphon from PHP and ordered two custom tunes, 87 Performance and 91 performance, they had it on sale $30 off

Im very happy with it. Im still waiting on my custom tunes, but it is already the best thing i've ever bought for $440. It feels like my truck is still on the 31s and about 500 lbs lighter. I dropped 2.5 seconds off of my 0-60! (11s before tuning, 8.5s after) and thats with only running the 87 octane towing tune!
