04 5.4 FX4..cannot get decent mileage at all...UGH

I have tried everything and I can still not get over 12mpg. Mixed highway.citcy driving. I have tried 2 different intakes, stock tune, Predator 87 octane tune, 93 octane tune, my own tune, new fuel filter, seafoam, I do not know what else to do. I'm REALLY thinking of selling the truck. It only has 48k miles on it too. Any ideas????

let me get this strait....you spent how much money trying to get better fuel economy? 2 intakes $400, tuner $400...thats alot of gas money...and for mixed highway/city being a 6000lb 4x4 truck with a V8 12mpg is not that bad.

highway mileage at best for 4wd is around 15 to 16 unless you drive like an 80 year old. 12 seems a little low. I get 13 plus or minus a half, but you arent talking much difference, but i do have heavy wheels and tires. Its not worth spending a crap ton of money to me to get like 30 more miles on a tank of gas, but to each his own. I think this has always been an interesting topic on here to me. I get that you want to get good gas mileage, we all do, but you know its a heavy gas powered truck?... Other then the intakes and programmers, is that all you have, no big tires or anything? If i were you id drive the lx stanger!

True. This is pretty close to what I get too. I do a lot of city driving, though.

In town I get 11mpg, on the highway about 15mpg but it really depends on the wind, how fast im driving ect. Ive seen single digits before when towing...

Do you have over-sized tires on the truck? Also Not to bust your bubble but I have a tuner, exhaust and intake and over-sized tires and all that put together is gonna eat gas just FYI,I dunno that's alot to spend just to wanna get rid of the truck.. trucks are trucks and typically you don't buy a truck expecting to get great gas mileage out of them.

Just wanted to throw my 2 cents in.

I get between 14 and 16 in a stock FX4 with a good mix of city and highway. I try not to put my foot in it too much at lights. I have seen mid-18's on the highway when I dropped my speed about 5mph (thank you GA DOT construction and FL dowwnpours). Depending on your driving habits and tires/tunes, 12 isn't too far off

I'm thinking that selling your truck may be what you should do. You will never be happy with truck if you worry about the mileage. They were not designed to just sip gas.

I'm getting an average of a little over 15 MPG with mixed driving and I don't have a easy foot on the gas. I take off fast and drive about 75-80 on the highway. I've got 4x4, 3.73 rear end, Lariat, Super Cab, 5.4L engine, all stock (hard cover over bed though). 103,000 miles on the truck. I can get about 16.5 on the highway at 75 MPH if the roads are flat.

I average 15 mpg with a mix of city/hwy, when I filled up yesterday it was 14.85 mpg. That is with 325/60/18 Nitto TG on 18X9 wheels, Edge Evo on lvl2 with timing set at +1 running 91 oct, Airaid Jr. intake, custom 3" SI/SO exhaust, and 3.73 gears.

I don't drive easy usually, rpms usually hit 3,000 when accelerating.

I have gotten as good as 19.7 mpg on a long highway trip with the cruise set at 60 mph, on longer interstate trips with the cruise set at 70-75 mileage drops to the 16 range. I have gotten as low as 9 mpg towing.
