The 5.3L is a good motor, very peppy and gets good mileage. But if you do any towing or heavy hauling the 5.4L is far superior, IMO. It has alot more low end torque and just seems to have more usable power in general when you have a trailer in tow.

5.4 makes 60 more torque then the chevy 5.3. The 5.3 is a car motor more so then a truck motor. Stock for stock the Dodge is faster then chevy which is faster then ford, but when you lift up all 3 trucks on a hoist and look underneeth you can see why. Ford is built like a truck, the rest are playing catch up. Its obvious in the new 09 Dodge too.

Dodge is doing more than just playing catch-up, there going backwards. The GM twins used coil spring rear suspension 40 years ago, the 67-72 chevy/gmc had coils in the rear.

I think they are playing to the street queen crowds. Maybe they will have some heavy duty package for the people that actually need a truck.

Who are these "everyone" Chevy, Dodge and Toyota guys? My guess is more than likely. The 5.4 is an awesome motor; great for towing, and just plain hauling stuff. I don't have any info on gas milage, but look, the F150 is a truck; if you wanted good MPG, then get an econobox.

I had two chevy 1500's, and an 06 ram 1500 with the 5.7 hemi before this f-150, I was a thru and thru ford HATER back then. NOW... First off how anyone could pick either chevy or dodge over the ford after driving one is insane to me now. What was I thinking!! Empty the f-150 is slower for sure then both chevy and espically dodge. But neither chevy or dodge can haul, tow or just be an all around truck like ford can, not even close.
My f-150 drives and handles the same with 1 ton in the bed as it does with an empty bed. My chevy's couldnt barely hold half a ton, nether could the dodge. Neither could haul a load, or tow like my f-150. And the f-150 is a much nicer driving riding truck to begin with. If I wanted good economy, and speed I'd buy a car. Who really cares what others say about it anyway if they want to waist thier money on a pile let them

I am extremely happy with my recently aquired '07 F150 FX4 with 5.4 power. When I pull, I want steady, not fast. I don't dog it, I limit throttle and let the motor accelerate / pull the load. I limit my shifting under loads, often holding a gear and steady rpms until on the level or downgrades.

I love this 5.4.

I didn't buy a cruiser-suedo truck, I bought a truck.

I also have a few mechanic buddies and they all agree, the Ford is more truck than the others and they get pretty familiar with the nuts and bolts and weeknesses.

I think all the other truck manufacturers are just jealous because they are unable to build an engine that matches the durability and reliability of the 5.4. It is fun to go fast, but a truck was meant to do one thing and that is TOW!!! And FORD has built the best towing trucks the last 30 years.

Actually a truck is meant to carry. That's sorta the reason there's a bed behind the cab.

In pest control, my company has used long bed 5.4's ever sience they found out that we could get 250.000 miles every time out of them with out replacing transmissions, or blowing the motor's. thease trucks were rode hard and put away wet, running just about every day of the week loaded down with extreemly heavy custom tremite rigs made by REALLY inovations, and rarly gave us a fuss. cam phazer, ball joints and ignition pacs, were pretty much the olny normal things that would eventually go bad with the trucks. and even at that, the proffet far out weighed the loss!!!!! great motor! hands down great truck!

Before I bought my truck in 2006 I searched on the best towing trucks (chevy, toyota, dodge and ford) and found that ford was able to tow more than the others for that model year. I didn't buy my F150 for speed, i bought it for confortability, relabiltiy and towing capability. I have tow about 7000lbs from NJ to FL and back without a problem, taken it from NJ to TX and back twice with a bed full of clothes, tools, books and a motorcycle ramp (100+ lbs) with a motorcycle strapped on it that weight about 450 lbs without a problem. The only regret that I have is not buying my FX4 with a sunroof.
