some fool(s) broke into my truck last night, busted the drivers door glass. the only things i had was a gps (that was put away in the console, so i guess they got lucky) and my el-cheapo radar detector i have had since '98. i don't think the replacement will be worth a $500 claim on my insurance, so i am going to call around tomorrow and see what it is gonna cost, but i would like to know if any of my F150 brothers and/or sisters have had the same situation and can enlighten me on what to expect, price-wise, on having the window replaced? i have no idea of what to expect...

Front glass runs about $180 new from the dealer. You should be able to pick it up for half that at a wrecking yard.

 

I would check with your insurance agent. I don't know about your state, but in MA where I live glass replacement is covered without deductible under the comprehensive fire and theft portion. I just had my windshield replaced at no cost to me.

 

i will check, but i think that might only be the windshield that is covered, but i am no insurance agent. i found a place to do it for $160 installed, sounded pretty reasonable to me. thanks for the replies!

on a side note, i didnt take the time to really go thru everything until this morning, and as it turns out, the gps was still in my console! however, i think they may have gotten a set of keys to my other car, a 95 buick with nothing special about it, but i would hate for that car to dissappear... only has 38xxx miles on it and gets 28 mpg.

I had my old Silverado broken into when I was at a bar a couple years back. I think I paid $160 for glass and install at a place here in town. Call around to some glass places and see what they tell you.

 

You might be able to save a little if you can remove and reinstall the door panel yourself. I did that once and I think I saved about 20%-30% of the original glass replacement cost.

that sucks... sounds like a prime junk-yard job. Take a look at the window regulator posts in the how-to for good instructions on getting the door apart!

i got it replaced for $160 from a place called Glass Time. they are also Oil Time. betcha cant guess what they do there.
