engine swap
engine swap
has nay body entertained th eidea of swapping out the 5.4 3v with the 427 cobra engine the new one or the shelby engine is there a difference between ours and the shelby engine just curious. just wondering for s*%$s and giggles...
Are you talking about the shelby gt 500 engine? Look in the supercharger forum, there is a thread where someone is doing that exact swap.

The 427 cobra engine was a FE big block. That engine family was in production from '57 until the mid seventies. Ford stopped putting FE's in cars around '70 and in trucks around '75. An actual 427 cid FE big block has not been made in over 40 years.

are you talking about the Roush 4.6 3v?
or
Saleen 4.6 3v that has been stroked to a 5.0?
or
the 1960/70 427 Big Block Carb'd motor?
as mentioned, no 427 has been built in many many years from Ford. You can still buy crate engines from Ford Racing though...I think they have a stroker 5.4 in there somewhere that is a bit over 400 cubes

now is that the GT (Supercar) motor, or the GT500 (Mustang) motor?
looks like the GT motor. pretty...and I'll bet it's a blast.
but yeah, that link up above is what I think you need to be reading. aweseom material there.

Not even close. The GT supercar engine had an aluminum block with a dry sump oiling system and no starter provisions. The gt 500 engine uses a regular iron 5.4 block w/wet sump and starter provisions. Both used the same head castings, but the gt supercar had bigger cams. The gt had a twinscrew s/c while the 500 motor had a smaller roots style s/c.
