How much tire shine is too much? [Pics]

So I got some uber shiny tire foam for the new BF 315/70/17's. I thought it looked cool, wife said it looked "gay". She also watches America's Next Top Model so her reputation for good taste is already tarnished. What do you guys think?

Normal Turtle-Wax Wet & Black

No-Touch Wet Spray

Not sure how good of a photo your Turtle Wax dressing is -- I agree that it looks like there is almost no dressing on it. However, I suspect your wife is onto something -- ridiculously shiny sidewalls scream out "gay" or "18-year-old in a ricer" to me! I think sidewalls should have a nice, matte-black sheen (notice I did not say SHINE) to them.

I've found the best way to achieve the look I prefer is by using the spray-on bottle (not the aerosol can) of Black Magic Tire Wet -- spray the tire, let it sit for a minute or two, and then wipe off the excess with an old rag. After several applications over time the tire almost seems to build-up a coating that gives the perfect sheen without that "over-the-top" cheesy shine.....

You need to listen to your wife. Matte black looks the best.

If you like it, then keep it. If you don't, don't. Why do something to your truck (or in this case, not do) that you personally don't like just to please others? Doesn't make much sense to me.

Nice truck btw. Mega black headlights.

I don't think it's too much. It's not enough to make the tires look like they're plastic which looks terrible. I used Meguiars Tire Shine Gel before. That stuff is HORRIBLE IMO. You have about 4" of Gel on the tires which puts a reflection on the tires, when I went over the white letters it made them black and the dust stuck to it like crazy and made it look horrible.

I think freshly washed trucks/vehicles without a nice shine on the tires just isn't complete.

It's like not cleaning your fenderwells.

Of those 2, I like the No-Touch the best.

My tire shine is a mixture of mud and dirt.

Do you get any output from your headlights? Those things are friggin dark.
