Alarm install
Alarm install
I recently bought a Viper 5901 2-way system from Amazon.com
Been reading the instruction manual that came with it and it seems to leave some information out (PATS bypass, etc.)
Is there other documentation (like an actual installation manual) that is available? I checked the website and didnt see anything more than what came with the unit.
I remember back in 2000 i installed a Directed (Viper i believe) remote start in my old Mazda pickup and someone on a Mazda forum was able to provide me with a vehicle specific installation manual from Directed. Any know where I could get my hands on this for the F-150?
Thanks!

I think so too. I need to read up on the PKFORD manuals. Not 100% how they play together. Can you give me a brief summary on how they play together?
I think the PKFORD module plugs into the BCM, and then the Viper Brain plugs into the PKFORD module.
But like I said I need to read all the manuals now that everything got here

Someone PM'd me about what parts I got. I'll post them up as a reference for others
Viper 5901 Responder Two-Way Security System $224.50 (Main Unit)
Directed Electronics 520T Back-Up Battery System $14.99
Install Essentials 513T Mini Piezo Siren $9.40
PKFM Ford Transponder Override -Upgradeable (revised XK04) (PKFM) $40.80
Directed Electronics 506T I.T. Audio Sensor $12.50
I was thinking of also getting the window control module... but I couldnt get myself to spend $50+ to be able to roll my windows up and down with the remote.
If I get the chance to do the install with time I'll try to get a write up and some pictures, but i promise nothing!

I installed my own remote start on my 2005 and ran into next to zero problems thanks to KC AutoSounds. Travis includes a detailed 10 or so page color document showing you what wires to tap into.
Every single wire you need is under the steering column or there under the driver kick panel and along the rocker panel. I was able to install my Code SRT-9000 alarm in about 2 hours and it has worked flawlessly from day 1. No problems whatsoever.
I've done hundreds of stereo installs, but never an alarm install until this one. Super easy!

I wasnt even going to try to do mine. But I have 4 shock sensors, leveling sensors, 3 sirens, window modules, and proximity sensors (those were annoying so I turned them off, lol). If you feel confident great. But once you start there is no turning back. Make sure you solder the connections so they dont come loose. And dont cut ends to make it work. Do it right. This is part of my alarm harness...

I've done a remote install in the past, was pretty straight forward, the alarm part has a little worried
So i gave it a shot on Saturday!
Got almost everything working, remote start was a bit problamatic. Note for anyone else ever trying this... The remote start module ships in "manual" mode it must be changed to "automatic" mode using the valet button (the manual describes this process). This had me scratching me head for about an hour checking all my wiring when the issue was just a programing step that I over looked.
Now my truck has progressive power locks. I know the Viper's remote should be able to unlock my doors when the alarm is disarmed. I just dont see in the manual how to wire this us. Does it one one of the auxiliary triggers along with a relay? If anyone has any experience with this I'd appreciate it!
Thanks!
