I'm trying to see exactly what the differences are but im starting to get really confused.

XLT's dont come in leather, right?

What's the difference between FX4 and Lariat?

Just everything in general, has anyone typed out what they know? sorry

With the Lariat you get the automatic climate control.

Plus some items are standard with the Lariat package where they can be an option on the FX4. Leather is one example.

Some options are not available on the XLT. Leather is one example.

These are the things that stand out to me

Fx4 - Ptm bumpers , unpainted flares , carbon fiber interior,Fx4 grill, manual climate controls,

Lariat- Chrome bumpers / 2-tone, fake wood interior, Honey comb grill, auto climate controls

If you like Ptm go with an Fx4 , I would

When did the FX4 start getting a luxury package? Was it only in the current MY? Do any of the 2004-2008 FX4's have the enhanced message centre and EATC, even as an option?

FX4 Luxury Package wasn't officially labeled as such until the 2007 models arrived. But some of the 2006 trucks had the option...My 2006 FX4 was one of them. The factory Window Sticker showed it had a "Luxury Package" installed at the factory.
Only the Lariat and the KR get the Message Center...period.

But you can get the Auto EATC in a FX4...Luxury Package that is

XLT:
4.6 Motor Standard (5.4 available)
Power Windows
Power Locks
Cruise Control
Cloth Seats Only
FX4:
5.4 Motor Standard
3.73 Gears
Limited Slip
PTM Bumpers
Textured Flares - Unpainted
Black "H" Bar Grille
Skid Plates
Leather Seats Available
Carbon Fiber & Black interior scheme
32" rubber on 18" rims (early FX4's have 32" on 17" rims)...20" rims available
FX4 Luxury Package:
Basic FX4 Package
Center Shift Console
AUTO EATC Unit
Blinkers in Mirrors
Heated Mirrors
Black Leather, Power Captain Seats
Adjustable Height Pedals
Lariat:
XLT options
5.4 Motor Standard
Center Shift Console Available
PTM Flares
Heated/Blinker Mirrors
Power-Fold Mirrors
Auto EATC
Traction Control Available
Woodgrain Dash/Door panels
Message Center Instrument Cluster
Leather Seats only
Power Seats
Adjustable Pedals
King Ranch:
Lariat options standard
Saddle Leather Seats

basically KR has all the options installed that are available

Options you can get in all models:
Moonroof
Power Rear Window
Power Seats
Audiophile Radio

Not an all inclusive list...but it's a pretty good breakdown of the differences IMO

To add to what Tylus said,

XL base model, lowest trim level. has unpainted black plastic upper bumper cover and grill surround and argent gray painted bumpers. Chrome package adds chrome grill surround and chrome bumpers. Almost all XL's are regular cabs with either a 6.5' bed or 8' in 08 an xl screw became available. All xl's have manual windows, except the screw version. Xl's can be had with the 4.2 v-6 w/5 speed manual trans or 4 speed auto, and the 5.4 v-8 w/auto trans. A 4.6 may be available, I've never seen or heard of one though. Radio choices were just the base single cd or no cd radio. 17" wheels were the only option. 4x4's got manual shift system with a stick on the floor.

STX next step up in trim level. Adds body color painted bumpers, upper bumper cover, and grill surround. Came in regular cab or supercab only, with the 4.2 v-6 or the 4.6 v-8 only. Some special edition stx's came with a 5.4 and 20" wheels. Manual windows were still standard, later years got a power window option. STX scabs with manual windows, the back windows do not roll down, they are fixed in place. The track is there inside the door, just no window regulator. 4x4's had a manual t-case only.

XLT Adds power windows as standard, came with a different guage cluster with a tach standard. Came with power mirrors standard and a black honeycomb grill. XLT's could be had in regular cab w/6.5' or 8' bed, scab w/5.5' 6.5' or 8' bed and screw w/5.5' or 6.5' bed. You could get any engine 4.2, 4.6, or 5.4, but the 4.2 was restricted to regular cabs only. You could get any engine in a regular cab, but you could not get the 4.2 in a scab or screw. XLT's still came with 17" wheels, the xlt chrome package got you chrome 18" wheels. Special edition xlt's (like the FX2) got standard flow thru center console in scabs and screws only with specific black and red sport cloth seats, leather sport seats were optional, the black and carbon fiber interior trim came in the fx2's w/ the fx4 cluster. All FX2's came with 18" wheels standard and 20's optional. Side note, the 07 FX2's got the same 20 as the fx4's and lariats, the 08 FX2 got a special 20" wheel that no other f-150 had.
Finally, XLT is the first trim level that you can get a tan interior and/or two tone paint in tan or silver. Radios were cd/cass combo, single cd, 6 disc cd, or audiophile (07-08). ESOF became optional on 4x4's

FX4 Came standard with black and carbon fiber interior, gray seats and door panel trim was optional, leather seats were optional in black or gray. FX4's got a different guage cluster than the xlt's did, the FX4 cluster is popular upgrade for the xl, stx, and xlt trucks because its a simple bolt in once it's reprogrammed. FX4's came with skid plates standard, along with ESOF 4x4 system and LS rear differential. FX4's also got standard fog lights. They came with painted bumpers and the same h-bar grill as the xl's and stx's. Color choice was restricted to only six colors, red, white, blue, black, silver, or gray, in 04 only you could get a yellow FX4. Two tone paint was available in gray only, all step side fx4's got mandatory two-tone paint. Wheel choices were 17", 18" or 20" depending on year. FX4's came in reg cab w/6.5' bed, scab w/ 5.5' or 6.5', and screw w/5.5' or 6.5' bed. All FX4's got the 5.4 w/4 speed auto and all are 4x4's and all have black textured unpainted fender flares. Nav radios became optional in 07 and flow thru console was optional in all years.

LARIAT Came with standard leather interior in black or tan w/optional flow thru console, with a different guage cluster than lower trim levels w/message center.came with standard EATC and faux woodgrain trim in place of the faux carbon fiber of the fx4's. All lariats had standard power heated mirrors and standard rear window defrost, and standard 5.4 v-8. Lariats came with chrome bumpers, chrome grill surround, smooth painted fender flares and beige or black honeycomb grill. Two tone paint is available in beige only, only the bright red and blue lariats get mandatory two-tone paint, all other colors, it's optional. Lariats only came in scabs w/5.5' or 6.5 bed and screws w/5.5' or 6.5' bed. In 04 only a regular cab 8' bed lariat could be had but they are VERY rare. Wheels were standard 18" or optional 20's and all configuations could be had in 2wd or 4x4. 4x4's got ESOF standard.

HARLEY DAVIDSON basically a special edition lariat with special "harley carbon fiber trim" "harley black leather seats" "special harley lariat guage cluster" standard flow thru console. Harleys also got a special painted lower valence and a special chrome 6 bar grill and harley fender and tailgate badges over the regular f150 badges. All harleys got 22" wheels, 3 different versions over the 3 year run. Harley's only came in scab w/6.5' bed (06 only) or screw w/5.5' bed (07-08) Harley's were the first 150 to get the optional AWD transfer case instead of the 4x4. Harley's only came in 2 colors, black or dark amethyst. All harley's got a special step bar/running board. Dual power heated seats were standard. AWD models got an awd ESOF t-case.

LIMITED basically a white harley w/ tan interior. Had the same AWD t-case as the harley, same lower valence, same grill, same 22" wheels, same running boards, they were just white. They had special chrome L I M I T E D block letters on the bed side. Limteds only came in screw w/ 5.5' bed, came in white tri-coat only and were 08 only.

KING RANCH Basically a loaded lariat with special brown leather dual power heated seats, mandatory tan interior, mandatory two-tone paint in beige only, standard power, heated, folding mirrors (06-up). beige painted h-bar grill w/ chrome surround and beige running boards. KR's got a special 7-bar 18" wheel or the optional 20" and only came in a screw w/5.5' or 6.5' bed. KR's also got special fender and tailgate badges. ESOF was standard on 4x4

On the FX4's w/the luxury package, you got the smooth lariat leather seats instead of the sport leather from the regular fx4, EATC, dual power heated seats, power heated mirrors, flow thru console as standard. In 07 they added body color painted h-bar grill, body color skull caps except on the power fold mirror option, and body color door and tailgate handles.

The FX2's were basically a 2wd version of an FX4 with a special 13 bar gray painted grill and a special body color lower valence. They also had painted handles and skull caps.

The 07-up harley's also got painted handles and skull caps.

The limited had Mark LT handles and chrome skull caps.

The 07-up lariat chrome package got you chrome skull caps and black plastic handle buckets w/chrome pull straps.

The power fold mirrors were available from 06-up on FX4's, lariats, harleys, on screws only but can be retrofitted onto any 150 with factory power mirrors from 04-up regardless of cab or door style.

The factory rear veiw camera from 08 can be retrofitted onto any model, the special tailgate handle for the camera comes in plain black plastic, lariat chrome, PTM and in prepainted mark lt styles. The factory camera can be used on an aftermarket indash headunit as it uses the industry standard NTSC video output.

All 04-up 150's have a 6 x 135mm bolt pattern for the wheels except the heavy duty payload package, they had a 7 x 150mm pattern. all factory 6 lug wheels are interchangable between models regardless of size. Factory 17's are 7.5" wide, both steel and aluminum, 18's are 7.5", 20's are 8.5" and the 22's are 9.0" or 9.5", I'm not sure. All factory 20's came with a 275/55/20 tire on both 2wd and 4x4 trucks, the 22's got a 275/45/22, the 18's got a 265/60/18 on 2wd and 275/65/18 on 4x4's, and the 17's got a whole slew of different sizes depending on whether it was a 2wd or 4x4 and trim level.

I have a 4x4 lariat but have 3.73's and there are factory skid plates on it. So my 04 is basically a fx4 lariat. Lol. How come you can get a fx4 lariat on the f250's but not on the f150's.
