OBD2 doesn't work - any suggestions?
 

Hey guys

New guy on the block. I have an 06 f150 XL with 33K miles on it. the other day I was out with the wife and our dirtbikes when the check engine light came up.

I hooked up my pocket scanner but he wouldn't power up. tried on another car - worked fine.

so I did some reading and found out most of the time it is a blown fuse - checked it and it is fine (even though only one of the 2 lighters work).


Any suggestions? I noticed that the pins on the OBD and on the scanner are not 100% matching ( I mean that not every pin on the OBD has a matching pin on the scanner side) - can that be the problem?

If the lighter does not work then it is the fuse. You must have missed a fuse. There is a fuse for the power outlets, and then another fuse for the cig lighter. Check again...

I have 2 lighters just under the radio (one a bit to the side - which does work) and another one (the right below the radio) which doesn't...

You have 2 cig lighters? I think you have one cig lighter and the other one is a power point. The one right below the radio is the cig lighter. Look in your manual for the cig lighter fuse and check it. The one below your passenger air vent is a power point. On my truck it has a little flap covering it up.

You were right on the money - it was the fuse (#41). The funny thing is that I checked it several times with my tester and it showed as if it was good. once I pulled it out I saw it was blown.

well now I know what the Check engine light is on for.

I have a p0054 code and a pending p2270

I looked them up and this is what I found

p0054 - HO2S Heater Resistance (Bank 1, Sensor 2)

From the site (engine-light-help.com):
"Possible causes for this check engine light code include:
Blown oxygen sensor fuse
Open circuit in oxygen sensor harness
Open circuit internal to oxygen sensor
Open circuit in PCM
Short circuit in oxygen sensor harness
Short circuit internal to oxygen sensor
Short circuit internal to PCM"

P2270 - O2 sensor stuck lean-Bank 1, Sensor 2


So here are my questions now:

1.Where is that Bank 1, Sensor 2 located at? I read it is the passenger's side rearmost sensor , but where is it ? is it on the back on the engine or under the body?

2.I would like to first check if the oxygen sensor fuse is Blown. where can I find that fuse?

3.Should I take care of the pending code as well or do you think they are both related?

Glad I could help. I am great at electrical problems, but the mechanical I am still learning. Its almost ALWAYS the fuses when something doesnt work. And i never trust those testers. I always get a pair of pliers and just pop it out.
