Is my truck a diesel?

Ok I know my truck isnt a diesel but today on my way to work I decided to lay into it pullin out onto the highway. I looked behind me to see my exhaust tip spittin black smoke out, not blue, not white, but black.
I drive the truck back and forth to work every day but dont really give it anything past half throttle. Could it be just some carbon build up or somthing.? I also sea foamed it about a week ago could it just be some left burnin out? Also the inside of my stainless tip is black like my dads Powestroke

Oh truck is a 04 f150 5.4 with straight pipe and rear cat delete and K&N intake. No tuner

I'd say the straight pipe and intake without the tune may be causing some problems

Especially the '04 model 5.4L with a CAI and no tune. You're most likely running very lean and that may be a contributing factor to your problems. I don't know about gas engines but I know on diesel engines black smoke is nothing but unburnt fuel.

Agreed. Was it black before the cat removal?

Get a tuner then. dyno tuned would be nice, but get the tunes, run the the datalog stuff and send it back in for a tweak.

If your tips are black then you are most likly running rich. And no your truck is not a diesel.

The rear cat delete and your lean condition are doing it. Also its also a little remainder from the sea foam clean out. My truck will blow a very very light amount of black smoke from a hard rev. I'm custom tuned with rear cats out.

FYI, black smoke would be from being rich.

thats what i've always thought. But I have no fuel mods. Only intake and exhaust. So In theory it should be lean.... I've been keepin an eye on it and the truck hasn't done it in awile.......and darren you have the gryphon right? How you like it?

When I put my AEM intake on it made me run rich. It was over compensating for the air at low rpm's. A tune fixed it.
