It seems to me that the majority of people who blow their trans, have a programmer & custom tune! I tell you what, my trans runs flawlessly, I tow once in a while also as I use my truck for work on occasionm towing John Deere Diesel tractor, trailers loaded, & wood chippers!......it's bone stock, & runs awesome!......

OUCH! Yes, you need a new trans. Most rebuilds require a core in exchange with a stout core charge. I don't know if they'd take yours with that hole in it. Something inside grenaded.

False. The stock tune is too reliant on the clutches and creates excessive wear, making the transmission fail prematurely. Most of the transmission failures I've seen here were stock. A custom tune gives firmer shifts making the transmission last longer.

Either way though, catastrophic failure can not be prevented.

Could that have been struck by something on the outside or did it definitely come from the inside?

I bet I get at least 100K trouble free miles out of my trans, even with the occasional towing that I do.......I guess we shall see sometime in the future?.......

I have 88,000 on mine, with a tuner. Runs great, shifts perfectly and the downshifts are fantastic.

My front clutches took a dump in my transmission at around 90k. Stock besides for slightly bigger tires

Transmissions will only last as long as you abuse them

Unlike 99% on this forum (except a few with deeper pockets than me...Weazel, FX4Matt ), I was running 100+ more HP than all of y'all on my 2006. And then you got guys like AnahiemDrew with I think 40,000+ miles on a stock tranny pushing 400+ RWHP.

I personally had ZERO problems in 8 months of full throttle dumps and 20+ foot burnouts. Transmission shifted like a dream.
I'm sure it will have issues later on down the road. But in stock form, the tranny is more than adequate, and hardly a "Joke".

And I hate to say it, but it is also a numbers game. You try building MILLIONS of units and not having 1-2 here and there go out.

btw, I'm interested to see what you find inside the pan. The picture is somewhat weird. You can see where some of the pan went outwards...but how did a chunk of something that size fit outside that hole?

reread your manual

if you have the 5.4 motor, your transmission is "Lifetime" fluid unless it meets the Heavy Duty Service requirements
