Considering 2004 - Opinions
I posted a question about spark plugs in the engine forum and it was suggested I ask for opinions on the truck I am considering. If this is not the right place to ask, let me know.
Basically, it is an '04 crew Lariat with 70K asking almost 18K. Interior is great, some dings and scratches on the outside but nothing big, tires a bit questionable. According to the carfax the driveshaft has been replaced and no maintenance records in the past 20K. Was a fleet vehicle for 9 months which seems like an odd length of time to me. Idles a bit rough compared to others I have driven but not bad, not sure what is considered normal. Salesman thought it was probably a 3.73 with Limited-Slip but couldn't verify in the short amount of time I had last night.
Here it is: http://lfford.lutherauto.com/Preowne...oryId=27831344
So, what do you think? Personally, I'm not sold on black leather during the summer. But it sure looks nice.
Thanks,
Phil

I think the asking price is kinda high for an 04. Don't worry about the black leather, I have it in my truck and I'm in Cleveland and we are a little warmer than you and the black leather doesn't get hot in the summer, a little warm maybe, but not hot.
I think that asking price is a little high for an '05, forget an '04. I bought my '05 FX4 in December, with 77K KM's (~46K Miles) for $18K CAD. With our exchange rate the way it's been (CAD->USD), that would have been roughly $14.6K USD, back in December.
I think it has to do with the smoking deals on new trucks, people trying to save money in this economy by buying used, and gas prices leveling out some.
They are under book for retail, and I figure I can get at least $1.5K off their price. If not, I won't buy it.
From the looks, the truck is at a ford dealer, is it certified pre owned? In one of the pics the drivers seat bottom cushion looks worn, try to get them to replace it and throw in a spark plug change.
Weird interior. Looks exactly like my FX4 except random wood pieces, lol. For a comparison, my '04 scab (not screw like this one) FX4 with 39k miles was a little over 12 I think; super clean with new tires, brakes etc. This truck you are looking at also have memory power seat, sunroof, heated seats over mine. So being it is a screw and a little nice option wise. I would say 15k is a good price with those miles. If the axle code on the door jamb is B6 it is a 3.73 L/S.

Black leather here in FL isn't a problem.

OK, I looked again tonight. The shop was closed so the salesman couldn't confirm the axle. But it was axle code 26, which I think is a 3.55 non limited slip. But all I found for that is a single post on a single forum, all other charts don't show that one.
Dunno, think I might pass on this one. But not because of price, they are all around this price or higher in the midwest. Just not in good enough shape and something is funny in the interior. Pretty dirty in areas they missed detailing and an odd smell not quite covered up. They'd have to give me a heck of a deal to consider it, and considering the way they are moving trucks, I don't think that will happen.
But thanks for all the assistance, I'll keep looking. If anybody within 250 miles or so of the dealer I posted is looking to sell, let me know.
Thanks,
Phil

Is that a 4x4 Crew?
I've been looking extensively at everything within 500 miles of me and have not seen anything even close to that unless it is 2-wheel drive.

I just saw an '05 Supercab with cloth interior on Autotrader in Charlotte, NC. Nice looking truck, but has 130K on it. Asking price is $10,995. Has some minor dings in tailgate area, but overall, looks good. Sorry, don't have a link for you but if you search 200 miles from zip 29554, you should see it. I was doing same thing a couple of weeks ago, after my old ride was totalled and found a bunch of trucks. When I finally settled with insurance, most were already gone. Finally found a nice '04 Lariat locally. Move quickly, bought it the next day.
