Jwool's Build thread

My goal is to get the truck on the cover of Truckin'.Laugh at me if you want but it is going to be complete custom in every aspect. Obviously yall know what it takes to get in truckin. It's going to take lots of time and money but now that I have the new Dmax my truck just sits so why not finish it out. I got the complete saleen body kit with the 23 inch wheels. As some of you know my truck is blacked out in everyway possible. I want to keep the same theme but I am considering doing it flat black instead. The truck is going to be repainted because their is going to be lots of body mods done like completely shaving everything and a bunch of other custom work. I dont want to give away all of the secrets. Lets just say I have a buddy who is a skilled body person that will be doing all the work for me. He is also a fabricator. I am going to be doing a custom twin turbo setup on this truck. We just got done fabricating a custom kit for an 04 mach 1 i'll post up some pics and specs later when I have a chance. I don't have any pics of my truck with the new wheels on it yet even. I know im slackin but what can you do.. I'm going to do twin t57's. I'm going all out on this one, yall will all see when it is done. But who knows when that will be this is going to be a huge project but it is something different and why not. I am so psyched you have no idea! Any suggestions and opinions would be greatly apprciated! I will post everything up in this thread with pics and everything tomorrow when I get her cleaned up. I have been all over the place the last month and now I am finally staying put for a while so i'll have more time.

So should I get the wheels powdercoated and paint all the body parts black and stick with the all black theme, or go with the flat black scheme instead. Thanks for the opinions i'll try and get up pics asap and more about the project in general i'm just pooped right now.

twin turbo feeding inline? or twin turbo split between the banks?

why a Saleen body kit? it's been featured in Magazines before. So it seems that would automatically get you denied. Especially from a street scene magazine like Truckin'

same with the Saleen 23" wheels

not to be a Debbie downer...but your current plan would net a wicked looking truck, and awesome to drive...but not exactly what you are after longterm for getting a cover Feature

stoffer Jun 15, 2009 05:51 AM

why not add some flat black saleen graphics instead of flat black for the entire truck???

I am not a fan on no chrome but I think you can do it, you've got a good start and the saleen body kit and wheels will set it off nicely

take a look at my green truck, people laugh at me for not changing up the 2 tone and for not going "blackout" but when sit in the seat and look at the 140mhp speedo and stomp it, it makes me smile when the pipes ring after the "slow" flowmaster exhaust

at the end of the day, it's your truck and as long as you like it that's all that matters

I love the look of flat black, personally I have never seen one on an F150 with our body style and as long as it's different then it will be bad ass. Can't wait to see some pics

What are you planning on doing as far as the suspension goes, bags? body drop? Just curious

in order to be in a mag it needs to be different, not crazy just clean. if you have the new truckin read the article about the bagged blue chevy. they talk about it needing to be simple, clean, and it needs to win some shows. just don't bolt on a bunch of parts, there is no personality in that.:ll:

FATHERFORD Jun 15, 2009 10:07 AM

Quit talking about it, sell some more of them fancy drill bits, and get it done.

Patman Jun 15, 2009 10:18 AM

*yawn*

haha i'm trying man! I've been all over the place but business has been great.I just got back from Singapore so my sched is all messed up and need to get back on track.

I realize that the saleen body kit is a common kit and has been featured but that is just a very small part of this truck. I am still in the research phase but there are lots of things already in the works for this truck.

I am not going for the "g ride" look anymore. I want you to see my truck driving down the road and think wow that is a super clean truck, and it turns heads and people look at it, but the real suprise is when they get into the truck and really start looking at things. My goal is to have a truck that yea it stands out but just by looking at it on the street you have have no idea the magnitude of my build.

I'm not going to lie I have a bunch of people helping me with this project and I am learning as much as I can as it goes along. I'm a pure car audio guy really so I have been researching and trying to learn everything I can before I start getting myself into something I have no idea about. Like I said, I am not going to be doing this prematurely. I expect this build to drag out for atleast 2 years and I am going to have to do a little at a time as I can afford it but It WILL be done right.

I know no one is trying to burst my bubble but you are going to have to trust me on this one. I have seen what it takes to get into the magazine and that is why I am not rushing into this and taking my time every step of the way and making sure it is done correctly.

As far as suspension, that is where I am going to get with patman and let him do his thing. Like I said I am trying to use all of my resources and talk to people who know what they're doing and fully understanding it myself before I do it rather than just doing it.

As far as the interior goes as soon as I find out what color scheme I want I will have the seats made. The seats are going to be custom made and are coming from the guy that actually designed the saleen s7 interiors. Instead of using suede we are using (i am so brain dead right now but they use it in all of the supercars and its a more durable better quality material than suede... It starts with a C i'll post when I can remember it)........... and then I will be redoing my headliner again

I know this seems so scattered and it kinda is right now but when I get caught up on my sleep I will go into more detail and of course as I get stuff done and parts bought I will keep everyone updated. But please keep the opinions coming, criticism helps and I would love to see what you guys think because we are all f150 people here. I will have the complete body kit by the end of the week. I am going to have to measure up the side skirts because I ordered the ones for the supercab that has the side exhaust. They have to be cut down just a smidge to make them work but it is no biggie. Then we will test fit them and go ahead and start bending the exhaust. I already have headers and true duals, I am cutting everything off from the collector back and starting over. The plan is 3inch into a custom x pipe with electric cut outs and then have the electric cutouts ran to the side so when I really want to be loud its just a switch away. Otherwise I am going to go with a throaty good sounding muffler for everyday purposes just to try and keep the whole theme going that I am trying for.

Like I said once I get un jet lagged and finally get some sleep i'm sure i'll be more organized haha. I was just excited and couldn't sleep so I decided hey why not start a build thread and see what everyone thinks and get some opinions and such before I get the ball rolling. The last month has been crazy I have been all over the place... literally.

Anyways thanks for all the help and support as usual. Like I said I have a goal and I know what it takes to accomplish it and it will be nothing short of that believe me.

And for whoever asked about the turbo setup, the way I understand it we will be doing a rear mount turbo system and obviously hand fab everything. I am going to sand blast my factory manifolds tomorrow and see what kind of shape they are in because thats most likely what we will use for the setup. It's 10 am in texas and it feels like bedtime haha so I am going to catch a few z's and keep yall posted. I am going to get the truck all cleaned up tonight and take pics with the new wheels on. Hell its been sitting for 2 weeks I'm excited to drive it again!

this line made me think of an episode of "pimp my ride" where they have the little conference and talk over what everyone is gonna do on the car

bigdog87 Jun 15, 2009 12:54 PM

This is going to be sweet!! I like flat black

achap Jun 15, 2009 01:05 PM

complete flat black FTW

Ronix Jun 15, 2009 01:09 PM

I do like the all blacked out " murdered" look but I think it has had it's day now and it's time to move on to something else or change it slightly. I have a picture of a car that was painted flat black on the bottom to the cars mid body line and then a gloss black on top with a silver pinstripe to cover the paint line and it looks really sharp. You could do the wheels in a combo of flat and gloss black. Flat black lip with gloss fronts or something. Again, I just think you should try and change the all black look somewhat. Flat back patterns on gloss back paint...you get the idea.

decided just to upload the pic for everyone and you to see.

yea thats a unique look. I think gloss black wheels with the flat bottom would actually look good, and you could mimic the 03 harley two tone

Jwool15 Jun 15, 2009 10:19 PM

Well here is some pics. Excuse the picture quality they're taken with my iphone. I cleaned it up pretty good so heres what it looks like with the new wheels.
