What's my payload capacity?

OK, I looked on my vehicle load sticker and it shows my GVWR is 6950, but I can't locate the curb weight of my vehicle anywhere.
How can I tell how much I can haul in the bed?

I have a 2005 STX 4x4 Ecab.

Ideas?

The only way to get the correct curb weight, is to weigh the vehicle. Each vehicle is different depending upon model and options. An FX4 or Lariat would weigh far more than the same body style XLT. Each XLT is different depending on options.

Doesn't seem to make much sense that they give you the GVWR, but not the curb weight. How is a regular person supposed to figure out what is safe to haul? Not to mention STX's didn't come with much, and accessories weren't very common. They have to all weigh about the same. Probably within 100 lbs., give or take, for the 4x4 supercab.

I can find specs for the '09 F150's on Ford's website but nothing on older years. They show, depending on model, about 1400-1500 payload capacity.

Has the capacity really changed much with the new ones?

I'm not sure about this, but can't any person, in any vehicle pull into any big truck weigh station, pay a few dollars, and have their vehicle weighed ?

I think all states have weigh stations don't they ? I have one about 5 miles from my house.

Hmmm,
Fish

Yes, and each model is different depending on options. There are at least 3 different GVWRs, 6950, 7200, and 8200, depending upon model and options.
And again, the curb weight would be different for each, and different depending what options were on the vehicle.

As an example, going from stock p235/75r17 tires to LT275/65r18 will add between 1-200lbs of weight.

There should be an "EW" (empty weight) listing on your door sticker. Again, this is without options.

If you have the 4.6L you can put 1530 lbs in the box. If you have the 5.4L you can put 1670 lbs in the box.

This sounds about right, but the F150 being what it is 2500 lbs is no sweat!:p

One yard of 3/4 gravel.

Just hauled a 1/2 yard of sand, truck still rode normal (with some squat). Looked up online that it would be around 1,350lbs depending on water content.
