From the article....

Owning an F-150 - or any Ford product - should be hassle-free, even when it comes to maintenance. All 2004 F-150s have a new lifetime automatic transmission fluid that never needs changing.

Hmmm. Wasn't aware of that. So why does the manual recommend fluid changes?

If my recollection is correct, only in certain use environments (towing, extended idling, etc.) are transmission fluid changes necessary. Fairly mudane usage does not require changes -- it seems to me I read this in my manual back when I bought my truck.

Thats some good to know info. I really like the tranny info. I'm getting close to 50k and didn't do the 30k service on the tranny. Since I don't do any major towing or hauling the tranny should hold up fine with that lifetime fluid.

That's good. I've not had any Transmission service done, but I had a leaky seal replaced once under warranty and lately the short block replaced, both times they added fluid to it to replace what came out, 7 quarts lately. I've only hauled 2 trailers, once a uhaul, and once my father in law's bass tracker. I'm good I believe.

The transmission fluid is usually replaced (along with the transmission itself) somewhere in the first 100k miles.

I'm planning to change my fluid for the first time, and I'm just under 60k miles. After that, I'll change it every 30k or sooner.

Not to be a downer or anything...but are we allowed to link to another F-150 forum? because they certainly have an issue over there if you link to this forum

I personally don't understand it...but it happens

if you read farther into the manual, and the maintenance guide...and with normal driving
the only transmissions that Ford says to change the fluid on are the 4.6 tranny and the Torqueshift

and after 2006, they recommend it only on the Torqueshift.

Seems like all of the transmissions are going to the lifetime fluid setups.

When they stated owning a F-150 should be hassle free! Did they mean that statement for a simple hassle free speak plug change?.......(LOL)
