5w20 is the recommended viscosity with the 5.4 liter 3 valve VCT engines.

I have 81,400 miles on my '04 Supercrew, 21,000 of them since installing the Roush charger, and have been running 5-30 in my truck since doing so, with no issues. The engine is very quiet.
I have my beliefs and reasons for doing so and am quite happy with the results.

my shop mechanic who works on a lot of big diesels and gas engines says to add a quart of lucas every oil change, I guess add just 6 quarts of 5w20 and save the last for lucas but a lot of folks here detest lucas

I run 5-30 based on my experiences with forced air induction. When you get into the boost a heavier viscosity oil gives you a little extra protection. Some may argue this point but my past experiences have proven it to me.
Don't make your choices based on my opinion, its your vehicle and you need to make the decisions relating to it yourself. I am very comfortable with my decision on my vehicle.
