Question 100k service, few questions

Hey Everyone,

Well the truck (2005 4.6L 4x4 Scab) is about 1000 miles away from hitting the big 100k, so I figure it's time for some routine maintenance. The belt is looking like crap, the coolant is chunky, and I figure it's time to change the spark plugs. On top of all this I'm debating changing the oil in the front differential. The transmission had some work done (new clutch packs) about 9k ago, so I'm skipping that. Also thinking about cleaning the MAF and throttle body.

So here are my questions...

Any advice for changing the spark plugs in the way back by the firewall? I'm not looking forward to those...

Recommendations on coolant?

Any other items I'm missing? Or things I should look over or replace?

Thanks in advance

to let you know,i am really retentive with my truck, but all the stuff yall named i did at 50k.but routinely you should in my opinion change the oil, fuel filter, front and rear differential fluids, trans fluid, coolant and thermostat, belt, spark plugs, and fuel induction service cleaning, alignment check, rotate and balance the tires, and flush the brake fluid.

as far as coolant, obviously put what goes in it.
spark plugs, expierement with extensions and eventually you will find the combo that fits back there.

The spark plugs will be a little tough just move/remove what's needed to access them, at least yours will come out. Stick with whatever coolant Ford filled it with. Basically it's due to have all the various fluids replaced at this point. Flush the power steering, T-case, both diffs, brake flush, fuel filter if it hasn't been done in the last 30K or so and replace the air filter. Be careful cleaning the MAF, they're easy to kill and choose a cleaner for the throttle body that won't remove the coating on the throttle plate.

The rear diff was flushed about 40k ago when I had a leaky axle seal, should I do it again? The truck doesn't tow a lot, and isn't driven in deep water or anything like that. Good call on the power steering, and thermostat, I'll ad that to the list. The fuel filter I changed last oil change, also cleaned the air filter so I can check those off. I'm not very good on brakes, so I'm not to comfortable on flushing the break lines, is this a difficult job?

Once the original oil is drained from the diff it should be changed about every 30-50K. Flushing the brakes isn't a hard job it's just a long one. You'll need a buddy to sit in the truck to push the pedal, then you start at the longest line which is the right rear, have your buddy push the brake then while he holds it you open the bleeder to let out the fluid. While he is still holding the pedal you close the bleeder, then he let's up and presses it again. Repeat this until there's clean fluid coming out the bleeder, make sure to top up the master cylinder often to avoid sucking air into the system.

So you start with the right rear, then the left rear, right front and then left front.

good call on the power steering fluid i knew i missed something.one thing you can do too with the brake fluid is take a turkey baster and suck as much of the old fluid from the reservoir and fill it and then do the bleed at all the wheels and it will go much faster.do each wheel untill it comes out nice and clean.and yes watch that fluid level.as far as the diff i say might as well since you are doing everything else.
