Listen to this stupid horse-crap...thanks GEICO

I installed a Roush Supercharger back in Oct. I informed my insurance company, GEICO, in November. My policy has since renewed 1 time, and would have renewed this June.

Today, I got a letter in the mail from GEICO. It was a letter to thank me for my past business, but unfortunately I no longer qualify for insurance via GEICO.

The specific wording is:
Due to unacceptable customization (s) on the 2006 Ford, VIN XXX
The helpful girl at the local branch says that there is suspicion I am racing my truck. In addition, Supercharger/Turbo are not covered at all with GEICO.

So just a FYI for you guys. I asked what if I were to buy a Supercharged/Turbo vehicle off the lot (aka GT 500, Cobalt SS...etc.). At this time, they do not cover Forced Induction vehicles.
I then of course asked about the Diesel trucks...and got a whole story about it being different.
.

BTW, they also will only cover 4" of lift or less...or vehicles lowered using Hydraulics. :smoke:

Be careful. I got punished hardcore for doing the right thing. Went from $600 every 6 months for full coverage on 2 vehicles, to just over $900 every 6 months.
also found out that GEICO had lowered my coverages from the $50,000 I had been paying for previously, to a $25,000 coverage. Apparently this happened the last time my policy renewed.

make sure to check with your company very carefully what they will and will not support. Luckily USAA (new company) is pretty mod friendly. Just gonna cost me another $600 a yr.

That sucks man. Just wondering though, did they have to know you had a supercharger, or was is just voluntary that you let them know?

Have you taken your truck to the track? Ive heard of agents going to the track and writing down plates to run to see if they hold their policy. Just so they can drop them.

Have you gotten any racing tickets?

I think that fairly common among the insurance industry. Any kind of major expense going into/onto my truck, I would call insurance to see if they covered it first.

USAA is the best insurance you can get IMO. My Father has it (Ret. Major, US Army) so when I was of age I was able to get my own policy through them. I've never had one single iota of an issue with them in 20 years of coverage. Very good people.

WOW what a crock, i have all mods insured thru general casualty. i wonder if they would insure a saleen f150? everywhere you turn these days something is try bend you over, it's getting sad real quick.

i got caught racing on the street back in the day, good thing the audio police pulled me over in a dodge shadow and had no radar, very close call that night

State Farm covers all, I work for them and there is no issue, basically they have no restrictions on customizations, and if it is there at time of accident or whatever its covered

Yep, even on their motorcycle coverages... I haven't had any issues with them.

I just got a letter saying that my wheels wouldn't be covered.

Jpaye 04-08-2009 10:51 PM

letter from who? and what kind of wheels?

I think your the only person in the world that told them you have aftermarket parts...Probably not the best idea:thumbsup:

what if he would have hit someone and killed them, geico could have said the modifications were in violation of his policy and not covered it. then he would of been in a world of hurt.

bjp207 04-08-2009 11:27 PM

It was definetely the right thing to tell them, just like thirdgen said, better than havin them not cover you when you kill someone

But the good news is I can save 15% on my auto insurance

ManualF150 04-08-2009 11:31 PM

Just another reason to buy a turbo diesel...

j/k

I'm surprised I haven't been kicked off my insurance for all the radio equipment and stuff I have in my truck... :smoke:

It's like my truck can kill people with pacemakers from 2 miles away, plus give people (including myself) heavy doses of RF radiation...

In fact.. right now, I'm going lick my antenna while I transmit... I need the extra RF...

I have NEVER had a problem with anything... credit cards, loans, insurance, etc through USAA. heck... When some thugs broke into my truck and stole my system... USAA UPGRADED my system... they couldnt get the same parts that were in the truck anymore so they paid more for better parts.... I will ALWAYS use USAA.
