Cabin Air Filter(?)

I'm told the 150 doesn't have a factory filter, but what is that little slotted vent to the right of the ignition and to the left of the stereo/hvac controls? It seems to collect a lot of dust (as does the rest of my interior). I've seen this thing on all the Fords I can remember but not on any other makes.

That's where the automatic climate control system sensors are located. Even if you don't have the ACS, you'll still have it on the dash.
