Something to remember...

Occasionally I dont hold the key to start position long enough and the truck stumbles and dies.
Remember to turn the key completely to the off position before attempting to start it again. When I do it starts right up. When I dont it takes numerous rough stumble attempts.

Always do the regular scheduled fuel system maintenance.

It actually sounds like a problem I had years ago with a datsun I had. There was junk in the gas tank. Anytime I went below a 1/4 it would die as I was driving, I would stop, let it rest 10 min, start right up. After I filled it, it was far enough away from getting sucked in and no problem.

I'm in need of an oil change anyways so probably will just have the fuel filter replaced at the same time and hope that cures the problem.

It hasn't been sitting there the full time, but does sit there for days at a time between starts. I drive the motorcycle as my daily driver (weather permitting) and drive the truck when the weather doesn't cooperate. Out here in Hawaii I drive the bike a lot.

Just stumbled across this thread as I was searching for this exact problem. Mine did it again today as it has in the past. Turn key, stumbles and dont crank. I just changed my fuel filter last wed. so I dont think thats the problem. I never thought of cleaning the throttle body, might try that and see if it helps. I also ran 87octane in the past when it has happened. I am now running 93 and have been for the past 3-4 fill-ups.

I had a similar problem on my 05 stop and get some gas then it was hard to start had to long crank it to start it took it to the dealer was still under warranty at the the time & they updated the programming on the pcm and the problem been gone ever since. I think there is a tsb out on a long crank issue I'll have to look around to find it and post it later. hope this helps.

Something to try; this issue happened to me a few times over the years. Reset the computer (disconnect the negative battery lead, and turn the headlights on to drain any residual charge). Then re-connect. Mine would randomly go stubborn, and sometimes just stall out. Re-setting the pcm always seemed to fix it for a year or so. Hey, if it doesn't help, it cost you nothing except 5 minutes of your time.

Manual150 hit it right on the head. This morning I go to start up my truck and it starts to put like it's dying or running out of fuel. I finally figured out it was the fuel pump shutoff switch. I changed the fuel filter 2 days ago...so maybe a leak caused this to go off? Talk about a hidden little button. If it is dying it's probably fuel related.
