Gas filler neck

I was pumping 93 octane (tuned for it) at the local Shell station today. I had it set on auto with the gas pump handle with that little lever so I could go give the truck a look, like always. Well, she was almost full and the auto shut off feature on that particular pump didn't work so gas spewed all over the side of the truck. I took the nozzle out and wiped off the bed side, after I mumbled an explicative.

Anyway, while cleaning off the truck I looked inside the filler neck and noticed there was no flapper in the tube. I can't remember if it had a flapper in there or not for whatever reason. Never thought about it until the gas spill since that's never happened before. Stupid Shell station.

So, the question is this. Do we have a flapper in the filler neck on the 04-08 F150? I couldn't get any good answers in a search.

Thanks.

Yeah, I've been filling my truck up for 3 1/2 years and still couldn't remember.

Never had one.

Also, did you ensure everyone's safety?

I had this happen to me once, and I quickly made everyone evacuate, and I hit the emergency stop button. I then signaled the attendant, and they came out and assessed the situation. We then pushed the vehicle away without starting it, and they had a garbage can full of spill absorber, and we spread it out.

Needless to say, a bunch of people were slightly upset, but it was better than being blown to bits.

But I knew better not to push the Fire Button...

It didn't spew out like Niagara Falls or anything. I saw the gas overflowing and immediately made it stop. Made a nice sized puddle on the ground, but it evaporated quickly.
