Easy No-Sweat Spark Plug Change... Mabye?

So, there are all of the horror stories about these daggum spark plugs. The sleeve on the "tip" seizes to to head, porcelain snaps, you know the rest...

Here is my proposal. Whoever is next to changes out their plugs at home and breaks one, try this and report back: start the motor. Maybe put up something to deflect the objectile.... would it work?

I tried that when I broke on off in my neighbor's truck helping him change them out. It did not come out. It did shoot out the center conductor with enough force to put a gouge in the 1 X 4 piece of wood I held over the plug well. Ultimately he fabbed up a home-made extractor and pulled it out.

Not a nice thing to say, but do tell us what's going to tear up. I'm not suggesting to 'give 'er hell, cuz she'll blow out soonerenlater', but it wouldn't be the first time a motor ran one plug short. He||, the last batch of 5.4L's Ford cranked out blew plugs through the hood. When this happens, you're left with no option but to pull over at the next safest place, go get the fix it kit, and you're on your way.

So it didn't completely work, but it may or may not have left you in a better place than you started. Still not necessarily a "completely stupid idea" as others suggest.

I am open to any ideas...stupid or not. Thanks for sharing...

I still can't believe so many are stuck with this issue. I am 99% certain I am going to have it with my mileage...If there is a God maybe I'll get lucky and remove one spark plug without breaking...

x2. 93k miles on my 2004 5.4L on stock plugs. I'm expecting all 8 to break.

Apparently our 2004s are the worst too. Sweet.

I changed my '04 with 42k on the ODO and none broke, but I consider myself lucky.

I would just try to find a place that will take responsibility for fixing whatever might happen if they break a plug. There's got to be places that will make it right.

As many fix-it kits and bastardized methods to get the darn things out, it seems the odds in our favor that they're going to come out without pulling the head(s)... one way or the other...

You have to conside the age of your truck, an older 04/05 with plugs being in much longer than an 07 would be higher prone to being siezed.

My summary of the spark plug debacle: "Luck should have NOTHING to do with changing spark plugs!"

It is an 07, duh. 04-05 have a bigger chance of breaking plugs.
