Limited Slip not working

I have had my 2005 supercrew for about 4 months now, and had a sneaking suspicion that the limited slip was not working. On a nice ice covered day I put the front wheels up against a curb and then pushed on the gas. As I thought, only one wheel spun. The code on the door and says that the truck is to have LS and the metal plate on the rear end says 3L55. So can someone tell me what went wrong, and are things going to get worse?

High mileage? The clutches could be shot and worn out.

The clutches are likely worn out. You can find trac-loc rebuild kits for less than $100, and there are about a million write-ups online if you're a do it yourself type.

I'm not one to question your testing methods but for an additional test I would throw it on a lift real quick, spin the back right tire and see if the left moves for verification purposes.

easier test is the side of the road method.

1 tire on the pavement, 1 tire on the grass/dirt

floor it. some slippage is expected, but the pavement tire should accelerate the truck. if nothing but alot of spinning on the dirt/grass wheel, then the LS is bad

OR,

lift rear tires off the ground and rotate the tires forward, if both rear move in same direction then it should be working fine.

Mine are starting to lose their touch... today I pulled into work, and I gave it a little gas to spin them, and from looking at the ice I can tell 1 spun a couple more revolutions than the other.

23k on the OEM LS...

My limited slip died at 16k miles. They had to replace the clutch packs as well as the carrier. POS limited.....

is driving with worn out clutch packs bad, or just a pain when off road?

mine makes an abs like sound when only 1 wheel spins... do i need to worry?

I don't notice any bad sounds when this happens. There is only 30,000 miles on the truck, but by the way it sounds, it may be comun to have the LS go out at fairly low milage.
Lenor, how much did it cost you for your fix?
I will try puting the rear up on jack stands and rotate the tires to see if that works.

Well, I just got done putting it on the stands, and it seems that up in the air, both tires will spin. I still don't understand why only one was spining on the snow and ice. Seems to me that is when you want them to both spin.
