the tranny is too weak, it wont last, and these trucks are a little wear for a plow, buy a beat up old truck with a plow, or get a 4-wheeler w a plow. It will be the same cost as a good plow for your truck

We have plow on my Dads 2000 4.6l. It has been on all 95k, but we only plow his car wash and my two storage unit locations....and our driveways. Still going strong.

Your truck could handle it just fine. For light snow, use 4x4 high and take the overdrive off. If you get heavy wet snow, put it in 4x4 low and same thing, take it out of overdrive. If your looking for a cheap plow, get a fiberglass clear one, they are lighter, and will do less damage to your ball joints and tie rod ends in the long run. Go with a new one, so you get a warranty, and you have a company or shop install it proffesionally!

We had one of these plows on a older half ton with the 302 engine, for our camp truck in upper michigan. Take it from me first hand, this plow will hold up on your truck, and do the job you need it to do.

Here's a better source for plow related discussions.

Just be sure to select a plow that falls within the GVWR for the front of your truck and you'll be fine.

Here's my set up.

i personally wouldn't put a plow on anything less than a 3/4. the last thing i would want to worry about plowing is dropping a tranny out. frames take a beating on plow trucks, guys up here that plow trade their truck in every other season, only stupid people buy trucks that HAD plows on them, regardless of mileage.

I've got to agree - and I work for a plowing contractor with a fleet of ten F-350 diesels with 8 1/2' Fisher plows. You can mount a plow on an F-150 and have it last, but you'd better be very gentle with it or only plow light snow or a few driveways. If you get into the apartment complexes, shopping center lots or churches we do, it'll be toast in no time. Remember, when you go to sell that bad boy, anything that had a plow on it is the kiss of death for resale value.

I couldnt agree more. I have seen what plowing can do to a f-350 and an f-250, the 150 is just not made for it....plus, with the IFS on these trucks, bettwe plan on buying new ball joints and UCA's every year....we usually had to on the f-250 w a solid axle

Ive had no problems with half tons with snow plows, and we get more snow then most places in the USA and canada get. Upper michigan is the snow capitol! The only thing you will go through is ball joints prolly, just plow in 4x4 LOW and your tranny will be fine!

true that, you get alot of snow buts alot of its powder. that makes a BIG difference. not to mention you can put a bigger plow on a 3/4 ton, 1-2 feet more a swipe adds up in no time. 1/2 tons aren't meant to be put through the paces. i will agree older trucks are more able to be plow trucks IMO. there's a reason they don't have a snow plow prep package on very few 1/2 tons anymore. the frames just are not sturdy enough to take the abuse of plowing, drop a 1/2 ton into a good ditch plowing, your gonna have some cracks for sure. guy at work uses a '94 Z71 for plowing for alot of years (i don't wanna hear, oh chevy are junk either) and he has more plates welded to the frame. bottom line is for plowing your yard fine, anything more--3/4 ton or bigger hands down. you don't make money plowing snow slow, get it cleared as soon as possible, more money is your pocket. not many guys plow snow for free, its all about the benjamins some people have the belief is they sell it for it, it must be ok. give me a 3/4 and a v-boss and i'd be in heaven

if you plow in 4low the tranny will definetely cook faster...i have had my truck in 4low a few times and with every gear change it lunges...and I know everybody says they come to a complete stop while plowing...I will guarantee that you wont...I have plowed, and there is no way in he!! that I would put a plow on one of these trucks. My tranny went in 67k easy miles, it would go in about 10 plowing. And I'm not even getting into the resale problem...im with atom...3/4 or 1 ton with a boss 8'2'' V

I'd have to agree with most people in here, a plow on an F150 isn't a good idea. Specially if its newer and only has a 4.6L. I've seen the tranny go in a 1 ton cause of plows..nevermind a 1/2 ton.
