Never has this problem before......when i started up the motor ( to go out for lunch from work) the ABS warning lit on steady- what does that mean? ABS is not working but is it driveable?

How to fix this? I do have scangauge 2 but it doesnt show up with codes .

Not all scanners will pick up abs codes. I have a buddy who owns a shop and he used his mac tools scanner on my 99 to do a driving test to see what the problem was. My rear speed sensor was bad.

yup, I ould guess wheel speed sensor.

Truck is driveable. ABS doesn't work, so don't get intoa panic stop. If you do, pump your brakes, don't just slam them.

Turn truck off, wait awhile, turn it back on. Light stay on still ?

you can check the fluid in the master cylinder just to be sure.

Wheel speed sensors are on each front hub, and one in the differential.

Mine was the speed sensor in the driver front. look under there and you'll see a black cable going behind the hub, in between that and the rotor. if you take the tire, brake caliper, and rotor off you'll see it. and if you follow it up under your wheel well you'll see a connection. I got mine at autozone for like $26 dollars.

front- that i can do it....the problem- how do i know which side is shot/bad ?

As for rear, is it INSIDE or outside of differential?

If its inside, do i have to remove the rear cover, rings/pinions etc ???

Thanks!

The rear speed sensor on the differential is where I would start first. Replaced many over the years. But that was a long time ago, they seemed to have a short life. I think one bolt and a connector to replace it. Also has an O ring to seal it. But now that I think of it, chafed or broken wires were most of the problems I had because of the hundreds of miles on gravel roads each day they had to drive on. 70mph on those roads tore up more wiring than you could imagine along with other problems.

If it was me I would find a shop that could pin point the cause. Might save you $. It's very posible a speed sensor on the front could be bad as well.

Item Part Number Description

5 W700005-S309 Turbine shaft speed (TSS) sensor bolt
6 7M101 Turbine shaft speed (TSS) sensor

Rear.
Item Part Number Description

2 — Bolt
3 2L373 Wheel speed sensor
4 — O-ring

Oh man.....i was about to go home... The ABS lit is now OFF .

What should I do? to contuning to replace anyway ??

I m thinking, maybe order one part for front senors so i ll start with front driver, if the ABS still lit on, then i ll move to pass. side to test it ? yes its waste of time but thats only a way to find out.

or heck with it, order 2 fronts senors and 1 rear ??

Is it easy to repair ?

I m pretty good with hands.

Where can i order parts (reasonable price) online ford parts?

Thanks!

It will come back on. Mine did that 4 two weeks before I got it fixed. Dont stress yourself out, go to the dealership, they will find out which one is faulty and change it. It cost me 100 and it was done.

Have you done a visual to see if one is damaged? if so when the light goes back on pull up to any local shop and they can read the code. I got my speed sensor from local parts store.
