Extended Warranty

Trying to determine if I should buy one or not. If you read through my posts you will see that I just had the short block replaced and my starter went out two weeks ago. I have zero confidence in this truck. My last F150 had 188,000 miles on it when I traded it in and I would of taken it anywhere. I have been quoted +/- $1,400 for a 100,000 mile warranty. One thought is that with a new engine and new starter not much more could happen. Second thought is that $1,400 is insurance in case I have some more problems, but how many problems will it take to make up my $1,400. I bought an extended warranty on my 01 and never used it. If I wouldn't of been luck and found out about the injector warranty I would of easily spent $1,400 to fix my problem.

Let me know your thoughts. Also does anyone have experience with fordwarrantys.com?

I bought the extended warranty when I bought my truck, I just went 5 yrs 75k because I drive a lot. Its only been 2 years and I already have 58k on it, I really dont even know what the deductable is for it. But if the tranny goes out, it will have been worth it.

I just extended mine to 100K or 4 yrs...with a $100 deductible. I feel the same way with the lack of confidence. My trans has started the studdering 4-3 downshift and just in case the PCM reflash doesn't fix it, I didn't want to be stuck with the repair cost of something that expensive.

my local credit union sells warranties. I got a 6yr 100k one for $1600 and the bonus is if i dont use it i get the FULL amount back. Not pro-rated. I asked why do they offer that seems like a no brainer and he said "Because we know you'll use it!" He was right we did. My wifes expedition had oil leaking from the top of the head and it was a $2200 dollar repair...

When I first got my truck(used) I had a Non-Ford extended warranty. I was having issues with my transmission, so I took it to my "trusted Ford dealership". Before they even looked at it, they asked me is it under warranty. I told them it was, but it wasn't a Ford warranty. To make a long story short they refused to fix it. His reply was "we don't full with aftermarket warranties, too much of a hassel."

I plan on calling Ford customer service, and see what they have to say about it. I would really like to purchase another extended warranty real soon, because my truck seems likes its about to fall apart:o The more I think about it, it seems like they were giving me a bunch of BS. If I'm not mistaken, them turning down warranties is against the law???

Some one correct me if I'm wrong.

I was very specific on the phone with the rep making certain this warranty would be upheld by FOMOCO. I also recorded my conversation.

Sounds like you done it the right way. I may have to try this approach.

I have a FORD ESP warranty, 7years or 100K miles! It cost me $1800.00 worth it to me cause I keeping this vehicle for at least 100K miles, heck maybe 200K if it runs trouble free!

Well, if you don't get the warranty you know what will happen, you'd wish you would have bought one. I've always bought extended warranties on all my cars and trucks, piece of mind. Also, most repairs are going to be at least in the 500.00 range, and if it's something major it will not ruin you, your covered. I bought the Ford Premium care on my Explorer, which even covers a "rental". I think I paid between 1000.00 - 1200.00 for it. Cheap insurance if your keeping your truck.

Under 2 grand for a warranty seems pretty cheap. I wanted to extend mine and was quoted north of 2400.

Then I made the mistake of calling up a non-Ford one. They just read off some included items then wanted my credit card. The people were relentless, they were shocked that I didn't want to give them a huge chunk of change without reading any paperwork. I finally had to hang up on them. Now I get calls from them ALL THE TIME. Pisses me off.

With your luck so far it seems it would be the smartest route.

There is a pretty significant mark-up on these warrenties. Do a search on Ford ESP warrentiy and check out some of the Ford dealers selling them on-line. There is a substantial price difference. I did some research after buying my 2008 Super Crew 4x4 5.4L. The dealer wanted $1,130 for an ESP (mid level one step below the Premium Care) for 5 years 75K miles, $50 deductible. On-line I found it for $691. I did end up buying a 6 year 100K mile $50 deductible Premium Care ESP plan that cost just under $1,300. At my dealer they wanted in excess of $2,200 for it. As a Ford ESP plan it is good at any Ford/Lincoln/Mercury dealer. As to non-factory warrenties, my last truck was a Dodge Dakota bought used (2000 bought in 2001 with 27,000 on it). Bought it at a Nissan dealership and ended up buying a 3rd party warrenty from the Nissan Dealership. Nobody except that dealership would honor it when I had an issue. Granted, that dealership did honor it even to the extent that when I had an issue that was beyond them they sent it out to a Dodge dealer to have the work done and they paid the bills, but it was a hassle.
