Strange 4x4 Issue

Strange 4x4 Issue

This may seem a little strange. I hope it doesn't get too confusing.

When I transfer into 4High, I get this TERRIBLE hop when I turn the wheel even the slightest. This problem goes away if I put the truck in park, shut it COMPLETELY off, and re-start it.

Similarly, when I attempt to transfer back to 2WD, I have to put the truck in park and shut-off and restart it as well, otherwise I still get that horrible hop.

I can't believe this is normal for these trucks, so anyone have any idea what could be the cause of this?

BTW, the truck is a 2006 Lariat Screw 4x4.

Not too sure what the problem could be but the trucks do kick a bit when switching to 4H. The kick can seem very subtle for some trucks, but can be alot harder for others. Sure others will chime in with their opinions of what could be wrong.

Anyone else have any ideas before I take this issue to my dealer?

Are you running 4x4 while the road is not sufficiently covered in snow/ice...?

If you are running it without a lot of snow, ice, or precipitation, you are essentially binding up the drivetrain. 4x4 is NOT All-Wheel-Drive, where there is a center differential or a clutch system in which it allows for slippage when you cut your wheels.

Some just don't understand... but then again, these little cross overs show 4x4... and it's really all wheel drive, which is fake 4x4.

sounds have you have an issue with the hubs locking in and out, what happens if you turn the 4x4 on when the truck is off and then start the truck? will it jerk funny too? its seems like the truck is gonna hop off the ground, mine will do it if i turn the 4x4 off like when i leave a snowy tote road going onto a highway or something. maybe you got a leak or something? does it do it on a slick/unpaved surface?
