Bilstein 5100's, 3" lift????

Today I had my Bilstein 5100 struts installed on the front of my 2008 2wd xlt. Measured from the ground to center of wheel wells; before=34.25"drivers and 34.5" passenger, after=37.5" drivers and 37.75" passenger....WTF!?!? The front is now 1" higher than the back and I am not liking it. I was not even expecting to get the full 2" out of the bilsteins.

Can anyone tell me if it will drop with some breaking in?....the ride is considerably tighter than before as well!

:help:

i dont know if it makes a difference, but my truck is a reg cab 2wd and it stands perfectly leveled with the bilstein 5100 from the day i had them put on. ride is a little more firm than oem, but i think that's because bilstein was meant for off-roading more?

They will settle... at least mine did.

Do you recall how much they settled?

Thanks guys

lol. well, you can wait it out for it to level. if not, you can always add 1" block in the rear!

shocks should settle and give you the height your wanting.

I will be removing these 5100's after Christmas and putting the stock struts back on with a 2" spacer. TRUCKS RIDES LIKE CRAP!

Tylus Dec 20, 2008 02:40 PM

um...it's a truck.

they are supposed to ride rough. Those shocks you installed are a tigher riding shock.

You think. The before and after ride difference is too drastic of a change.

I'll be putting 5100's on my truck sooner or later.... but mostly sooner :)

sounds like you have problems the bilsteins that i have are 2" lift and they make the truck ride better than factory they are a little stiff but makes the truck handle better. After the lift my rear end sets up 1/2" than the front.

That is exactly what I was hoping for and expecting...which is why I am so puzzled.

Are you sure you didn't put 4x4 shocks on your 4x2? I can't think of any other reason you would get over 2" of lift from 5100's.

I was thinking the same thing, but just didn't say it.

That does sound like what happened though.
