4x4

quick question, i put the truck on neutral and put the switch on 4L, and when i put it on drive it engages, but the truck moves and it makes a weird noise, like something clicking, but loud. when i do the same but on 4H it doesnt make that same noise. is this normal or is something wrong withe my 4WD system?

Are you going directly from 2H to 4L? that might be your problem. Your supposed to go from 2H to 4H, then put the trans in neutral, then go to 4L. You should go in that order anytime you want to go into 4L.

True, it is all in the manual. Under 45 or 55 I think you can switch to 4H if on the proper pavement and without spinning the tires faster than you are currently moving. To go to 4L you need to have you tranny in Neutral and foot pressed on the brake. You will definitely feel it when it engages 4L.

Read your owners manual as it states that a little bit of sound/noise while switching into 4H or 4L is normal . Don't be afraid and just have your foot on the brake when putting into 4L

Perfectly normal as already explained. Try engaging 4L every now and then. When I first put my truck in 4L it must have been the first in a year it had been engaged, took forever for it to shift, and when I tried dis engaging it, it never let me back to 4H.

is it bad to use 4L on the pavement at a low speed?
