It's basically the same thing as your emblems and badges, and everyone paints those just as well.
So i bought the Krylon Paint. It says no sanding required. Should i still rough it up a little bit before spraying?

How are you guys cleaning off the factory sealant/adhesive once pulling the capsules apart? I would think you would want the surfaces to be absolutely clean before putting new sealant on, and sealing them up agiain.

Lots of scraping Its not the most exciting thing to do but the results are worth it. Mine have been done for 15 months now and still no leaks.

Just grab a razor knife and some screw drivers and you will be fine!

Actually I didn't rough up the headlights with sandpaper this time, and it sprayed on fine. Just like it says on the can, the only prep work needed it to make sure that they are clean.

Hey Jimbo, as far as cleaning the silicone out of the headlights, just do the same process you used for pulling them apart, soften them up in the oven set at 250 for about 5-10 minutes and just use a butter knife, flathead screwdriver or whatever works.. you shouldn't have to force it out, just let the oven do the work for you. I seperated, and removed the old silicone in under 2 hours for both of my headlights.

To those of you that are painting your headlights:

Are you painting behind the amber reflector for the side marker? All of the pics I see on here of the painted ones, the amber reflector looks darker, suggesting to me that the chrome part behind it has been painted. If you are painting the chrome reflector part behind the amber cover, then is the side marker's brightness significantly diminished?

I have a can of satin black fusion on hand, and am really thinking about doing this. I think it would look better on my black truck. I still can't decide if I want to paint all but the round bowls, or leave the sides chrome too, like some of you guys are doing. I don't want to sacrifice ANY of the lighting output, so I may leave the sides chrome, for that reason. I also want to come up with a sealant/adhesive, other than typical RTV, that closely mimics what the factory sealant does. I will have no patience for moisture entering the capsules.

JIMBO^^

I painted behind the reflector as well as the actual reflector. Sealent i would go w/ black RTV and run a thick bead around the lights. Close them up and ratchet them together for a few hours. Once that dries run another bead across the whole outside! Shouldnt have any moisture in them

Zeruin,
When you painted your grille. How did you prep it? Did you have to sand all of the chrome off or did you just scuff it a bit and sand on top of the chrome?
Thanks
