Angry Transmission blown at 67k

Well today I was driving on the highway for about 2 hours with my cruise on 65, driving very easily. I get off the highway and take off, no first gear, stop, check the fluid, full, no smells or anything, figured shutting it off and restarting the computer may fix it. No such luck, still no first gear.

Got home, went to back up, thudded into reverse, took off down the road to take it to the dealer, about 2 miles down the road lost 2nd gear, 3 more miles lost third and drove into the lot in 4th. Went to back into a spot, no reverse. The TRANS-FAULT message was in the screen and O/D off was flashing.

Is this normal to just randomly lose gears not abusing the transmission or anything? I have flushed the tranny at every 30k miles, and the heaviest thing I have towed is my 4 wheeler.

What is going to be more cost effective...rebuild or getting a remanufactured from ford? Im new at this, never had a tranny go so any input will help. TIA

From my experience a rebuilt sucks! My last truck i had mine rebuilt and driving home from the shop it went out again. then 2 more times over the next year. what ever you do dont skimp on the warranty.

i have read alot of people having bad luck with transmission being serviced for some reason. lol dunno what causes it. and i would do what ever is cheaper. or if you want, go ahead and build your transmission stronger if you ever plan on getting more power out of the truck

unfortunatly their is no such thing as a new transmission from ford, you cannot buy one they are all ford quality re-painted.

Theres a really good tranny shop in town and my dad is pretty good friends with the owner, just talked to him, he said as far as warranty he gives a year, but he said you usually cant beat the warranty of a ford remanufactured for the little amount more you'd pay. Guess I'll have to wait to hear from my service manager tommorow with details.

Mine went at 72k. Similar situation, driving on the highway, accelerating after taking a short rest stop, and lost 3rd gear and OD, refused to shift out of 2nd. Limped it to the nearest dealer, they dropped the tranny and both 3rd gear and OD bands were completely destroyed.

However, my truck sees a lot more abuse than it sounds like yours does. I do towing and hauling up mountain grades over 6000 ft elevation at least 10 times a year (plus Tahoe trips), and the constant shifting from 3rd to 4th to OD and back at high temperature is what ultimately ruined mine.

The dealer i took it to happened to have a re-manufactured tranny laying around, and they hooked it right up and i drove off the lot the very next day with a new tranny and 75k mile warranty for it. Its been perfectly fine for the first 20k miles, and my truck is lifted on 35s now = more stress.

2400 bucks.
