Dumb dealer

Took the 2005 truck to the dealer to have the recall done,The window switch was broke,And change the oil..No big deal.Get the call that its done.Get a ride to the dealer and sitting outside waiting for my truck to be pulled up.Started to read the invoice and notice this:

Tech notes: During oil change notice engine has oil leak.

WTF? no phone call?no notice to me?maybe the writer shouldve told me that when the call was made.

So im pissed and dont have the time to mess with that because i have to get back to my work.So when i had time later that day i lifted the truck on the rack and started looking.WOW.There was a ton of oil under the vechile.used 3 cans of brake clean to clean it off. Some the techs(honda tech.Me honda service writer)think the rear main is leaking. So im gonna take it back sometime the coming week and tell them to fix it because i have another set of wheel and im not taking intell its fixed!
The rear main common?or anyone think its the oil pan?
Sorry for the long rant!

It's really hard to diagnose an oil leak without seeing the truck.

As Stealth said it's hard to diagnose without seeing it. It could be the rear main, or it could be leaking from the back of the valve cover and running down the block. If it has alot of miles it's wouldn't be unusual for the rear main to start leaking.

quick easy trick to find out

go to the local spray wash. use the engine degreaser and spray the hell out of the engine/tranny from underneath. then spray the soap off.

give it 1 day and check for oil. highest point is your leak

if the leak is small, I personally don't think it's worth messing with. it obviously can't be that bad since you didn't notice yourself. besides, if the tech didn't tighten the oil plug at the last oil change, it can slowly leak out and look like something worse was happening

From: Georgia on my mind...
Dealers can't upsell warranty, unless it's a safety related concern. You as a service writer should know that. If they ain't bitchin' about it, we didn't see it. I know, it sucks, but it is what it is. Now, as to why the guy doing the oil change mentioned that on the RO, I dunno.

And I hope like hell your spelling and grammar are better on the ROs you generate than it is on this forum.

Thanks for the laugh quintin.I was just in a hurry to type that out.My grammar is better on ro's then here.lol.I guess ford and honda are two differant things when it comes to warrenty. We see it we do it.It makes me and the tech money and makes the customer happy. So they dont have to make repeat trips to the dealership. That is what Honda cares about.Ford might be a differant thing.

And thanks for the grammer dig.

I worked for a chrysler dealer, same thing. Cant upsell warranty. even safety items like suspension components must be worn past a spec. pretty sad that you cant tell the customer about that ball joint that is about to fall out.
