sorry guys pulling the 5.4 3v out

gas mileage has caused me to buy forgings for a 4.6 3v TEKSID with a turbo.

i start building the 4.6 this weekend. 8.59:1 cr and a 70mm turbo. i-beam,mahle pistons. and my tuning with a crapload of boost.

had fun. found a lot of n/a power and torque, but it has to go. no final dyno number for the last tuned version. too bad. i made 277rwhp/340rwtq untuned with little outside mods. i would guess its in the 285-300 rwhp/360rwtq range right now.

ttl guys its been fun.

gas prices are going down man. do you think the money your spending on the new engine will compensate for the gas you have/are going to spend??

I dont see how a souped up 4.6 will get better mileage than a mildly tuned 5.4? And the money you spent doing that, will it pay for itself soon?

i get 30mpg with the 5.4 tuned as lean as a 3v will allow(18:1 pt) and the timing is globally advanced 5 degrees, but i can't have daily fun. i can get the same mileage and tune it for fun with a 4.6 3v. the reason for turbo and 0-17psi dial -a -boost is still mileage. at 0-4 psi a turbo uses no more gas than N/A. but at 17psi on race gas it makes more power than anything. i just cant afford the performance i want with 5.4 3v. i could have just put forgings in this and turboed it, but bad gas mileage is useless to me. 160 miles per day. if i tune it for powertorque i get 14mpg and have to use premium.

with 8.5:1 CR and very low to no boost i can tune it (4.6 3v)for regular and still have some fun. the rods/pistons i bought are good to 800hp and 8000 rpm.

had to make a clean break. i will probably never boost it over 10psi. but at least i can. and i may keep the 5.4 and forge it in case i change my mind back. the 4v 'b' heads i have would work good on it. with a me-made intake.

if i conservatively tune the 4.6 i assure you i can exceed 35mpg. there's more done to the car for mileage than just a tune. gears, thin tall tires,58mph,etc. the 4.6 the car came with got 28mpg totally stock. with 3.08's.
