CB recommendations for 04 S'crew
Need a good quality CB, for highway travel, also wondering the best spot to mount inside and a good antenna + antenna mounting location beside the roof. Thanks
|
also curious about mounting locations. and antenna recomendations

What are you looking for in a radio and how much are you looking to spend on the radio and antenna combo. I have a Cobra 148 GTL and a Cobra 29 both are awesome radios and perform very well. As far as antennas I would suggest a 4ft fiberglass by K40 or Firestick. As far as mounting the antenna I would recomend a stake pocket mount with a quick disconnect for easy antenna removal. Monuting the radio in the truck is bascily personal prefernce. I like to have mine easily visible and higher rather than mounted on the lower dash panels. I have found thar if you have the storage rails in your truck that a Cobra 29 with velcro on it will fit snuggly between the rails and not move. One last piece of advice BUY GOOD COAX!!! dont go cheap on this or you will regret the decision.

I need a CB pretty much for general use. Picking up trucker talk, speed traps, road alerts, I really just listen, etc. and the possibility of emergency use.
Thanks |

You can expect to put a good set up together for about 200 for a Cobra 29LTD and antenna, mount, 18ft coax. If you are not looking to break the bank you can find packages for less. Here is link to a website that I use for all my stuff and they have awesome customer service if you have questions. good luck with your project.

i have a cobra 29ltd and it works great i have mine mounted in that little tray in the center of the dash above the radio its a perfect fit.
|
Firefighter, you mean in that rubber tray on the dash? Don't think I want it there, to visible for thieves. I've got a moon roof too, so I guess it's below the dash somewhere. Any good locations there? Thanks

I recommend Cobra radios and Wilson antennas. There are better radios but doesn't sound like you're wanting to plunk down a ton of cash for something like a Galaxie. I have a Cobra 29 and a Cobra 25. Had them tuned at the same time and suprisingly the 25 out talked the 29.

I have a Cobra SRX75. The "box" is located under my center seat up front. Just pulled up the seat and put the box in there. The handheld mic is mounted to my pullout cup holder. I like this setup because it looks so clean. All the controls for the unit are on the mic. Check it out. You may like it.

Ill chalk another one up for the cobra 148 GTL radio, great radio. For antenna I have a wilson 3' fiberglass antenna mounted on spring on bed side and have no complaints with performance whatsoever. I as well mostly listen rather than talk, and I can pick up truckers talking from quite a distance away.

I'm think about this mod, but can I see some more pics of antenna mount locations.

Thanks for all the ideas, I have heard Firestick is a high quality antenna. Has anyone mounted the antenna near the A pillar?
|
I love my Firestick Firefly it has been great! Mine is a magnet mount on the roof though:thumbsup:
