First off.....this site Kicks A##!!

I have a 04 F-150 FX4 with 155,000 on her. I LOVE this truck. Best truck I have been in, driven, or owned! Talk all you want.....nothing touches an F Series Truck. Its my 9th F-Series, but now I am looking at number 10.

Though about the new 09's but not reel keen on the styling on it. Seems like the majority of people feel the same way. That Sucks! I could wait till this fall to get one but I cant wait till 2010. I sure would like the 6 speed!

I am thinking about just buying an 08' instead. I still think they are the best looking 150's ever....IMHO I talked with the dealer and they mentioned that they are a Roush dealer as well and really talked up the "RouchCharger" for the 3V 5.4. I would love the extra power...as we all would....but are they reliable? I tow a 4 place snowmobile trailer all winter long and a 24 foot Boat in the summer. The power would be nice unless it will destroy the reliability of the truck. I live in the U.P. of Michigan and we deal with 5 months of below 0 degrees....any affect of a S/C?

Has anyone had any experience with these?? Thoughts? Opinions?
How much does it affect mpg?

The Roush comes with a 3 year 36 thousand mile warrenty and is the only one that doesn't void your manufactuors warrenty on the F150.
I am not shure on the towing aspect with them but I am shure someone here can chime in on that end.
I would go for it as I have heard only good things about them for the most part.

 

It tows and tows well. I've heard others say it limits the towing capability. I've experienced the opposite. I consistently get 14-15MPG towing loads ~ 6000lbs.

MPG is the same during normal conditions. If I go easy on the highway I get 21-22 MPG. 15-16 MPG is typical in town if I go easy and 14 MPG if I'm on it a lot. No affect on winter either. It runs EVEN BETTER when it's colder.

You can't go wrong with a Roushcharger. If winter is not a problem, go with a 4x2. You'll be happy you did.

 

Thanks alot for the input! The more and more I think about it, I think this is the way I am going to go! A deisel option in 2010 will cost around $6000.00 anyways and deisel fuel around here right now is $4.30 a gallon.

My main concern is longevity. Will this decrease the "life" of the drivetrain, engine and such? The 3 year part of the warrenty dosent matter much to me because I usually put on about 30,000 miles a year or more. I also know that adding HP and TQ does come at a price.

4X2 is NOT an option....ever! We get 300 or more inches of snow a year here in the winter, and I spend all summer and fall driving down 2-tracks and dirt roads chasing deer and bears.

--Is that S/C still gonna be running strong in 75,000 miles?

--Any "special" maintnance?

--Do you know many others running one of these? Have they had good luck?

--Is this the same set-up as the Harley Davidson Model?

I am sorry to post so many questions, but I am just itching to order one of these and want to hear from some "Real" people who have used them in the "real" world.......I surely expect the salesman to Love them! How do "owners" like them?

Yes, there is special maintenance. You have to maintain a supercharger belt. You need to change out the transmission and transfer case fluids more often. There was mention by my dealer that the charger oil should be serviced at 100K miles or so. You'll also need to maintain an oiled air filter, but I'm assuming you probably already used one.

As far as longevity is concerned, I don't know yet. I only have 35,000 miles on mine. If you're not on it all the time I'd say you'll lose a little longevity in the drivetrain and the engine categories, especially on the 4wd setup. I know of 2 Roushcharged owners who are up in the 60K mile range with no issues. One has a 4x2 like mine and the other has a 4x4.

But look on the bright side. Broken parts mean excuses to upgrade to even more power.

 

I put my Roushcharger on at 50K miles and at 80K I lost a piston due to an injector that leaned out the cylinder. I tow a 6000lb boat all summer long and it pulled it like a champ. I had also upped the boost and got a custom tune. Had my injector not gone bad when I was in the midle of a WOT run then my motor would probably be together still.

The Roushcharger kit is by far the best put together kit that looks OEM next to the Whipple and Saleen IMOP. If they will roll the price of the Roushcharger into the financing I say go for it you will be happy.
