Is There a Solution? Gas prices
Is There a Solution? Gas prices
I recently put 33x12.5x20 cooper stt's and factory 20's on my truck. Ive got 355 gears and the 4.6. Im wondering if there is anyway i can get better mileage than 10-11mpg that im getting. Should i regear, 373's...410's? or Cold air intake? or Programmer? These high gas prices are killing me right now but i love my truck to much to sell it.
By saving the money that those mods cost you could probably pay for the extra gas that you're currently using for as long as you own that truck.
But if you want to spend upwards of $1000 so you can save $1 or $2 every time you fill up, go ahead.
At least it's a good excuse to get new mods.

Unfortunately, you can't really have your cake and eat it too...bigger/wider tires aren't going to help your fuel economy. There isn't an easy answer. It's the price we pay for coolness.
SO, an intake, exhaust, and programmer...while they will cost you some coin right now and may or may not help your mileage...will definitely increase your coefficient of coolness. If you're paying for it already, you might as well be as cool as possible. Don't buy just one of the three...you need them all...breathe in, good tune, breathe out.
May I also suggest buying a ratty *** beater car at a buy here pay here for about $1000 and make it your daily driver? Tint the windows real dark, so nobody will know it's you, and it will not affect said coeffecient of coolness above.

Oh well...
I'll be getting a Harley soon so I can park the truck.
A motorcycle is a great gas mileage mod
Mine isn't lifted yet, but will be in a few weeks. I'm used to driving 85mph on the interstate. I'm going to drop that down about 10 or 15mph and see what that does for mileage gains. It will take longer to get where I'm goin but its a free gain if it helps.
For in town driving I'm guessing the gears would gain you some mileage back.
