Alignment problem, camber kit???...
I took my truck in today to get an alignment, but they told me that I need a camber kit for the lower control arm. It is one of my buddies that works there so I trust that if he says I need something then I'll get it. Basically I couldn't get the alignment cause the bolt in the lower control arm goes through a slot and can sometimes shift (I really ahve no idea what I'm talking about, so bear with me). Does anyone else know of this problem and where I can get a cheap camber kit? He says he can get it for $130 (Not including installation) for both lower control arms. Also is this something that I may be able to do myself...it looks like a simple replacement of a bolt??? Thanks

yes you will need a camber kit. any time you do the first alighnment on an 04-08 you will need those 4 bolts. the trucks are alighned on a jig at the factory which is why it does not come with them.

I've had my truck alligned 4 times and haven't needed anything to get it in spec.

^^then chances are they did not need to adjust caster or camber. as the old saying goes...set the toe collect the dough :p
edit. just noticed you have a procomp lift..it comes with its own camber kit.. |
The ford place did the one after the leveling kit and didn't mention squat... thanks stealership.

I do trust this guy since I've known him for years (before he even worked there). He explained it to me and it made sense at the time, but I can't recap it for my life. I do a decent amount off-roading and was told that it may shift that bolt also. Any idea where I can get a cheap one....already checked e-bay and no luck!

ill repeat myself...all of you with lift kits already have camber kits installed just like this http://i251.photobucket.com/albums/g...IMG_7854-1.jpglook at the lower a-arm bolts. that is a camber kit. if your truck does not have this in the factory location it means chances are good your caster/camber hasnt needed adjusting yet...or your tech has ALOT of patience and alighned it without which is a HUGE pain.

I don't have a lift YET so I think I do need these bolts. I am "watching" the listing you sent me (thanks), but I was looking to try to find the kit for under $100. My buddy can match that price on ebay. I found a couple BUT not sure if they are what I need or not. I'm going to try to print out the page and take it to him to see if it's what I need. Here are the links if anyone is a professional on this

none of the ones in the first link will work. those are for a f150 heritage(old body style)
the ones in the second link will work but you will need to buy 2 sets. you need 4 bolts in total. |

I have an 01 F150 XLT Supercrew 4wd w/228k miles. Just replaced driver side upper control arm, lower ball joint, outer tie rod; sway bar linkage on both sides; new front shocks and brakes. Took to local Firestone for alignment and was told I needed the caster alignment kit. Why? I've looked at the kit (online) and can't tell what it is going to give me I don't already have? When I replaced the upper control arm, I marked the original location of the 'cam' bolt to get it close when the new one was installed.
One Ford shop tells me they don't replace them were another couldn't give me an answer; let us check it ($70). I can do all the work except the alignment...if they see it needs the 'kit', they will charge to to replace or if I replace will have to pay for a new alignment. Also...would replacing the idler arm and/or the pitman arm require an alignment? From my understanding, they are steering related...not related to the alignment. Thanks. Hutch. |
