Mine were like that too with the dust at first. I was kind of pissed for the first few weeks. I let it build up before I cleaned them nice and good. After that the dust went down to a minimum. About the same as the rear weels with the factory brake pads. A HUGE improvement.

I had my fronts done with ceramic pads and premium aftermarket rotors and I'm extremely happy - NO dust.

Akebono Pro act ceramics are pretty decent. You will spend more on the pad but ceramic pads actually wear the rotor less. I have ebc rotors and would not buy them again them since one of mine was out of round right out of the box before they were put on the truck. I had to take about 5 thousands off and now they seem to be fine and I have abused them. I would look for a higher quality rotor such as brembo. The akebonos are virtually dustless and very quiet. I am very pleased with the akebonos and thier customer service is excellent. Dont buy rotors from car quest, napa, autozone ect. Many of thier brands are low quality. I spoke with someone at brembo and they should have ones out for our trucks now ( drilled). Good luck

A Pad I have not seen suggested on here before..

MOTORCRAFT Part # BRSD1083, SuperDuty Pad; Semi-Metallic, FRONT pads. I paid $81.64 to my door from RockAuto. I love them. I had 2 different types of pads from O'Rielly and hated both, I had the unlimited warrantly and the 1 year and both sucked IMO.. I'm not concerned about dust, I dont' wash my truck THAT often and its trying to stop 5500+ runaway pounds for God sake, what do you expect..

Thumbs down Down with ceramic- Up with OEM brake pads

From my experiance through turning two sets of warped rotors that were turned twice each, after going to ceramic pads (correction- EXPENSIVE ceramic pads) and another set of rotors turned once, I finally woke up. I thought my original FORD pads did not give me one problem. THEN I put another set of rotors (after market) and Orileys premium semi-metalic pads and all my problems stopped. Down with ceramic!!!!! Hope this helps. Happy motoring!!!!

Glad I came across this thread since I'm going to have to replace my brakes this summer. So, It seems like the Carquest Semi Metallic blues is a good choice. I guess that's what I'm going with. Thanks.

Looking at the pictures, the rotor seems to be fine enough to slap a new set of pads on. But I never use a tape measure, I use a micrometer to measure. Some of the pics are useless. But the ones that show the rotor clearly, looks like you could just replace the pads and be fine. It doesn't seem to be gouged and the serface seems to be even. If it were mine, I would consider just replaceing the pads. If stock rotors, I would not install ceramic pads. jmo

After putting up with the dust for 6k, I went with a set of the Porterfield R4's and now have over 69K on the 2005 with lower dust and better braking.
