To all with the notorious Rough Idle....

I have been thinking about this since I bought my truck, and I have actually had it to the dealer twice for this. It drives me nuts that my brand new truck idles rough. It isn't bad enough that it is a miss or anything, it just acts like it has an aggressive cam. I had my buddy open the hood on his tundra and the engine shake is aboutt he same on the engine, but his Tundra idles flawlessly inside the cab. Does anyone make an aftermarket set of motor mounts that would eliminate this engine vibration? Any other suggestions?

I too am interested in this. This is my second F150 had an 04 and now an 08.

Because I dont know as much as I would like to know about the mechanics of automobiles, the rough idle makes me think maybe theres something wrong....

4.6 right? the rough idle is due the tune. Ford is trying to squeeze all the MPG out that it can. so the motor idles at lower RPM and runs a little leaner.

my Mustang's 4.6 does the exact same thing...I know it sucks, but it is normal

all I can think is you could try using a programmer to bump the A/F mix up slightly and raise the idle about 50-100 rpm

5.4 here too. I am just wondering if anyone thinks there is a way to design motor mounts that isolate the idle more. The Tundra I looked at had about the same amount of engine shake, but was completely isolated by the motor mounts. I have tried bumping the idle, different tunes, different fuels, no difference.

First Germain, they aknowledged the rough idle, but failed to fix it, then Krieger and they claimed they couldn't reproduce the problem. It kills me. every day I am annoyed by this rough idle. I cannot even sit in my truck with it in park with the engine running. I have to shut it off because it bothers me so much. Maybe I'm just ****, I don't know.

Buy a tuner and it will go away.

I think you are missing the point. He should not have to buy anything, the issue shouldn't exist, and because it does, Ford should make it right.

How bad are the vibrations? It could be your parking brake sticking I know mine did once and it shook that truck like CRAZY! I unstuck it, now I'm just waiting till the weather warms up to pull the rotor off and fix it.

Thats the thing, I do have a tuner. It does it on eevery setting, including stock. I tried bumping the idle and still there. Maybe the truck is running a little lean to save on fuel economy.
